Forums › Hotel loyalty schemes › Marriott Bonvoy › Offers are never useful for me, as a European member
-
I don’t stay in Marriott hotels in Europe. I just don’t travel much in Europe. I live in the UK and my travel is mainly in North America. But on the app and website, the only offers I get relate to European bookings. I can see lots of interesting ones at the moment. The book one room get 50% off the second one looks ideal for my upcoming USA trip. But it won’t accept San Francisco!
Is there a way to get offers specific to a chosen region, instead of where you live? I haven’t contacted Marriott yet to discuss this, just thought I’d ask the forum gurus first.
Those are public offers available to everyone. You receive the European marketing messages because of an account address in the UK, but nothing stops you from booking the US deals.
Are you talking about Marriotts own rate offers? not Amx offers?
Because those offers are available to everyone globally they’re just sometimes different for different regions at different times and not every hotel participates in every rate code. However, if the property offers the code when you search it should show up. If you only want to see hotels participating in the rate code It’s worth looking up which rate code relates to the offer you are looking for (google is your friend) and adding it to your search on the website.
If it’s Amex offers then the only way you’re getting North American ones is by having a Bonvoy Amex issued in the US, never seen one for outside the EU on UK issued card, which unless you have an address etc in US is unlikely to be approved.

How do I find the US deals? When I log into my account I only see deals/promotions for Europe/Middle East/Africa. They don’t say that explicitly, but if I click on an offer and try to find a property, I can only select from a drop-down list which doesn’t include USA hotels. The offers/promotions on my account (also in the emails) don’t have rate codes, they just have links to click on.
Sure, I can select from a few rate codes from the drop-down list when I make a booking, e.g. AARP, Military etc, most of which tend to be for US customers. I’m not a member of a US organisation.
So it’s a bit catch-22. I can’t use the promotions that Marriott give me, personally, because I’m European and they won’t let me use them for US hotels. And I can’t use many of the rate codes offered when booking a US hotel because I’m European and don’t match US special groups.
Is there a forum somewhere where I can find deals for USA Marriott hotels that will work for me, as a European? I’ve tried some promotional codes before but they’ve been rejected – presumably because Marriott knows I’m European.
It’s as if they’ve worked out that I rarely use EMA hotels so that’s what they’re pushing at me. Like the recent Sainsbury Fruit and Veg Challenge where those who shop regularly at Sainsburys get higher targets. And Amex avios offers are often targeted at those who haven’t been using their cards lately. Amex BAPP retention offers are worse for those who spend more.
On my next trip to the USA I’m booking two rooms, one for us and one for friends who live in the USA who we’re paying for. Obviously I’d like the points for this long’ish stay, but might it be better if they book, as they might get offers that I can’t access?
Flyertalk Marriott forum has a long list of rate codes.
but as I said in most cases when a hotel is participating in an offer it will show for everyone
none of these are targeted maybe just change your country in the browser to US and see what offers you see or use a VPN set to USA and see what offers you see
the only targeted promos are for Bonvoy programme itself like double nights, extra points etc
Rate code for the 50% off second room is here – https://www.marriott.com/en-gb/offers/family-offer-off-20644
Special Offers site shows all special offers globally https://www.marriott.com/en-gb/offers.mi
I do apologise. I clearly haven’t explained myself well.
The links you kindly provided take me to a en-gb website where the terms and conditions clearly state the offers are only valid in Europe, Middle East and Africa. If I try to use an offer I cannot enter any hotel, I have to select one from a drop down list of hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This has always been the case.
My original post expressed a curiosity as to whether it’s possible to change my account so I could not only see but also take advantage of offers in the USA.
Marriott have acknowledged that this is how it works. That they will currently only offer promotions to me in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Because that’s the region I live in.
Again, I apologise if that wasn’t easy to understand. I hope this clarification helps.
I wasn’t logged in it was just what popped up hence I suggested use a VPN set to USA. As I said you don’t need to be targeted you just need to know the rate code.
But the offers just aren’t that good, $100 resort credit etc

As I said there’s a very long and comprehensive rate code thread on flyertalk. I can’t link to it but if you go to flyertalk Marriott forum it’s a sticky right at the top it’s not hard to find.

Anyway here’s the direct link to every rate code known about and the forum talks about other promos in depth.
