Hi,
Looking at East Coast trip next year and planning on flying to Boston and returning from New York, or vice versa.
We’d like to give first class a go using a 241, but don’t want to be stung with additional fees by doing an open jaw booking.
I was hoping someone might know if such a booking would attract the same fees as a return to New York (£857 pp), or would it instead be priced as 2x one ways (looks like £1,351 pp), or something else?
Cheers
No additional fees for open jaw.
However since RFS was rolled out for long-haul earlier this year, the cash element of a First fare is different from CW (where you can select from a range of Avios/cash combinations.) Previously the surcharge was the same for both cabins.
An open jaw doesn’t have to be booked as 2 one-ways – it is quite possible to book an open jaw on a single return ticket, but has to booked on the phone. LHR-BOS plus JFK-LHR would price as a return – you can get an idea of availability on the website but book it on the phone. If they try to suggest it as one-way taxes, you might need to hang up and try again.
RFS has standardised the fees to be the same each way, so it matters not whether you book one ways or returns for those, but does not apply to First bookings.
The problem seems to be that when you try and book, e.g. F out and CW back, the system prices it up as per the new avios but old fees so you are quoted a lot of avios plus a lot of cash. You can see this when doing a dummy booking online for a non-open jaw route. So if you’re mixing cabins, it’s still better doing it as 2 x one way.
