Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club optimum time to buy cash flights

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I’ll have a go anyway!

I’m looking to fly IBERIA long haul business class, from Madrid to South America next March. Is there an optimum time to by a cash ticket?

And as an aside, as I now live in Spain I can’t find anything similar to this site here – does anyone have any sugestions? I know that AMEX is not as widely accepted here, but am thinking of applying if there are sufficient opportunities, offers etc. TIA!

I suggest you consider taking Iberia’s bank card – quite a few years seen things like half price to South America cash promotions – and genuine half prices. Plus other deals with avios.

You can also sign up to ultimallamada – he’s South American but does drop the odd gem for Spain.

    Many thanks – will investigate.

Google flights has a tool on it that shows whether prices are above or below average at any given time.

I think consensus tends to be you should book 6-8 months out for the cheapest fares. Obviously that means you lose any last minute sale options. If you have more flexibility (i.e can go mid-week, make extra stops) then you might want to wait it out.

Top tip – once you book a ticket, assuming it’s non refundable, don’t go back and keep checking the price. There’s nothing you can do about it.

    Thanks Swiss Tony!
