Yes – had a 2 year gap from platinum and came back in October 2023 to it.
I last received a retention offer on 13th June last year of 50k MR points which I accepted, I tried again today and was only offered a downgrade to gold or to have the £650 split into monthly payments, they said there were no retention offers available to me. I may try again on the 14th June to see if it is a <12m thing!!
For information I have the Platinum Charge card and put £40-£50k a year on it.

Tried chat and was only told to call to downgrade to Gold. Once I did, I spoke to a very helpful agent in Brighton who offered 35k MR points which I accepted.
Business Platinum customer for just over 2 years. Spend around £600k pa. Never tried to cancel before. Asked to cancel on live chat and currently no retention offers available so was fine seeing me go. Held off cancelling for now.

Asked for a retention offer in December via chat, given 35k MR
Asked to cancel today via chat, given another 35k MRI put about £30k through my Amex accounts last year but it was entirely on the BAPP apart from the £6k to trigger the bonus and small amounts to use up offers.
The value of the card for the first year has been stupidly good – 130k MR/Avios, £200 travel credit spent, £450 dining credit spent in 2023 and 2024, £150 HN credit spent, lounge access for use when my BA status is useless and two United offers that I have used to fly to NYC twice at about £250 per person (just a shame that United economy is rubbish!).
I think I’ll stick with the card. I’m sure I’ll never get the same value out of it again but it should at least break even provided Amex coughs up a retention offer occasionally and the dining credit continues.

Update: I did another webchat today as was offered 50k MR so this is definitely triggered after 1 year since the last retention offer. I tried to get the monthly fee option too, but they said they could only give me 1 offer and not both. Happy with the result though!!
Not only no retention last time asking, so cancelled – but now also told No to gold upgrade (fair enough as I cancelled less than one year ago) and ALSO rejected on a new Platinum application!
Amex do draw the line somewhere it seems… and it’s me! 😂 (context: I have churned a lot, referred a lot, self referred a lot, and had my referral privileges removed – so not their best customer).
Applied two months ago and spent £6K+ triggering the welcome bonus.
No chat function in my Amex account from either APP or Web, so called helpline and was transferred to the cancellation team who gave 50K MR to keep the card. Though the staff did challenge why I applied it if it’s too expensive 🙁

I Have to buiss platinum acc, On one I get a rettention offer yearly and the other one never gets anything,Just been offered 50k over chat to stick with the Platinum.
Spending a lot of time in the US means the car rental cover is almost worth it alone, rather than being overcharged by the hire companies.

it appears absurd for Amex not to be begging you to stay, assuming you’re a good customer in other areas.

I joined Plarinum in July 22, first 50k retention in June 23 and second one yesterday.
Just to add 50k for us as a family is basically one Xmas flight to Dubai… I look at it as anything from GBP 500 to 700.

I have a similar spend profile on my business plat. Was just offered £55 statement credit as a retention offer. This is now the second year that I’ve had this rather meagre offer, although it is better than nothing.
35k points offered today and accepted. I have put around 15k through the card in the past year. Asked a couple of months ago and told only downgrade to gold available so possibly being just under 10k spend since renewal may have been the issue.
So assume the strategy here is to wait until a month out and just call and ask to cancel.
Probably £15-20k of spend on this card – is it optimistic to get 50,000 points or is that for ‘proper’ spenders only?
