I’ve had a look there various articles and topics and can’t see a straight answer to my specific query, so apologies if I’m going over old ground… I’ll try to be as direct as possible.
I’m the main cardholder for the Platinum AMEX and my wife has a supplementary card. And my wife is the main cardholder of the BAPP and I am the supplementary.
My question is this: If she paid for flights with her BAPP card, does that mean the trip is still eligible for Platinum travel insurance?
If my understanding is correct, if I’d paid with my supp BAPP card then we’d both be covered, but I can’t see a clear answer for what happens when she paid for the flights with a non-Platinum AMEX.I believe it’s the spend has to be done on an Amex for flight insurance coverage. The other features of insurance are universally covered if paying with an amex or not.
I also want to know this and looks like it hasn’t been answered yet.
If I remember correctly, the spend has to be on any Amex within the same account. In this case, it is not.
Yes, this has been covered quite a few times. Have a look at the definitions of “Card Account” in the T&Cs – it is straightforward that for the few parts of the insurance that actually require Amex payment (primarily those parts where you might pay for things before travel and might lose the value if you have to cancel for a valid reason) any Amex card in a covered persons name is fine (or that the merchant does not accept Amex).
The part about BAPP and supplementary, etc, I think is irrelevant, as both you and your wife are directly covered under the policy by having a platinum each.
The main sections of the policy for when you are away – e.g. medical, car hire – provide cover regardless of method of payment.
