Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Points earning and status

  • 158 posts

I made Silver last December and my wife is recently Bronze.
    I have 2 queries…
    1. Do we earn points at the status we have at the time of booking or time of flight?
    2. I’m unsure how the points are awarded. We have just flown LHR to Lanzarote Club and we’re awarded 6000 [Bronze] and 6800 [Silver]. How does this compute with the 25 & 50% bonuses we should earn with our status?
    Thanks

You earn the Avios and TP at the time of the flight so if you move from bronze to silver after booking a flight, you earn at the silver rate when you actually fly

The bonuses for bronze and silver are over and above what you earn as blue.

The other thing to remember is it is also based on the booking class for your reservation ie J class earns more than I class

The bonus is on the base milage, not for the total amount including cabin bonuses. So a bronze member in Club will earn 25% more base Avios over a blue member in Club, not 25% more total avios. This oddly favours those travelling in lowest fare class economy which as a blue member only earns 25% of the base mileage, and a gold member on the same ticket earns 100% base mileage bonus, plus the standard 25%, so a gold member on a basic economy ticket earns 5x the Avios that blue member would, not 2x as the 100% suggest they would.

LHR-ACE distance according to BA is 1714 miles

    So base avios of 1714 + 50% for discounted club + 25% for bronze = 1714 * 1.75 = 3000 avios

    + 50% for discounted club + 50% for silver = 1714 * 2 = 3428 avios

    Spot on. Thank you.
