Forums Payment cards American Express Prepay Amex balance?

Hi All- Is it possible to increase the available credit limit by pre-paying some of the balance ahead of statement generation?
My statement date on Platinum is the 26th, but I need to make a flight booking imminently.

Any other alternatives/ workarounds if the above isn’t possible?

Call and ask for a temporary credit limit increase?

Is there any credit file implication of that?

You can pay down your balance before the statement is issued and keep spending. Not sure why that would be a question though.

If the question is can you over pay so it’s in credit and spend more than your total credit limit then No. For that you’d need a temp uplift as above but they might do a hard search to check depending on how much you’re asking for.

On my Amex business i often pay down the balalnce multiple times a month so that large payments can be made. Theoretically there is no fixed credit limit! PRepayment does not cause any issues.

Ona charge card you can call and the credit team will confirm your PAR. Essentially your credit limit. They can increase this is needed but you may need to send a bank statement or something.

I was told by an Amex representative recently that you couldn’t spend more than your credit limit each month, as a way of stopping credit cycling. However, that seems to contradict some of the answers above and I’ve personally never tried it.

We’ve put a lot of travel through our BAPP recently and had reached our limit on a couple of occasions. There didn’t seem to be an issue paying balance off early and then spending again up to limit.

When I was a few hundred away from my limit, I got an email saying I should make a payment to ensure continued smooth use of my card and avoid the possible risk of future transactions being declined (if over limit).

Which is what i did, then carried on spending.

So seems unlikely that they’re bothered about repaying and going again. After all more business for them.
