Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Qatar open bridge reward flight

I’m looking to fly London to Auckland and then leave NZ via Christchurch back to London on Qatar. This is classed as multi city on Qatar website and it does not allow a reward flight booking using avios. Do I need to phone up or is it not possible? I know you can do it on BA but haven’t seen anything to suggest the same is true on Qatar.

Can you book it as two one-ways?

Qatar doesn’t fly to Christchurch. You’ll need Air NZ to fly you CHC to AKL first.

That is correct, Qatar doesn’t fly out of Christchurch. So I can’t book two one ways. However, Qatar will let you book a multi city trip flying into Auckland and out of Christchurch on their website, if you want to pay cash. So my question is, if you can book it as a cash flight online, can you book it as a reward flight over the phone paying in avios?

The return trip is via Auckland, Sydney or Melbourne with the first leg in Qantas or Jetstar. So the answer to your question is only if there is redemption availability on that first leg.

I think Jetstar is a no go (its not on Rob’s list of 32 airlines bookable with Avios), so that would limit you to itineraries using Qantas to Sydney or Melbourne on the first leg and onwards from there, if any such availability exists. If a redemption search isn’t showing anything then you’re likely out of luck.

Of course you could get yourself to one of those locations separately and fly back with Qatar from there.

I expect it will be much cheaper to take a domestic flight up to AKL and go from there. Check out grabaseat dot co dot nz where AirNZ puts its sale fares.
