Red to Gold with 1000 tier points?

On my recent four sector flight with Singapore Airlines i earned 600 Virgin tier points.
I was Red with no TPs before i flew and now i see i am silver and my tier points balance is now zero. How therefore is it possible to attain gold by accruing 1000 tier points , as per the VS website , when my balance is zeroed when i hit 400? It seems that i need to earn 1,400TP before reaching gold from Red ?
What is the rationale for zeroing my TP balance ? I feel robbed !!
Infact , what with my SQ flight from DaNang to SIN my balance would have been greater than 400 before i boarded my SIN to AMS so it certainly feels like i should have silver plus 175 TPs for SIN to AMS.

I’m no expert but as I understand it that’s just how Virgin’s structure works. So you’ll still get to gold if you get another 600 tier points but they reset the counter when you reach the next tier. I’m sure others with more experience/knowledge will be able to confirm exactly how it works. But from their website:

“Red members: To upgrade from Red to our Silver tier you’ll need to earn 400 Tier Points in any Upgrade Cycle. Your Upgrade Cycle is calculated from the current date of the month, to the 1st day of the same month in the previous year.
Silver or Gold members: Once you’re a Silver/Gold member you’ll remain in that tier provided you earn the minimum number of Tier Points for that tier within our Upgraded Fixed Membership Period (that’s 400 Tier Points to stay Silver, 1,000 Tier Points to stay Gold). This period is calculated from one day after the date on which you achieved Silver/Gold and continues for the remainder of that month plus a further 12 months.
To remain in Silver for another Fixed Membership Period, you’ll need to earn a minimum of 400 Tier Points in each Renewal Fixed Membership Period. You’ll have the full 12 calendar months to retain your Silver membership status.
For each Upgrade Cycle, Upgraded Fixed Membership Period and Fixed Membership Period, your Tier Points will reset to 0. If you don’t earn enough Tier Points to retain your Silver or Gold membership, you’ll automatically revert back to a Silver member from Gold and a Red member from Silver”

The quote from @ns explains it pretty succinctly. The fact that you have a variable upgrade cycle at Red and a fixed one for Silver and Gold is a little confusing, admittedly.
