I hold the BA card and have referred someone new to Amex . Link advises I’ll get 4K points if the new application is approved.
The person I referred has got the card and there account is up and running (been a week) how long is it till I get the bonus of 4K for referring someone
Is this timescale average or … live chat says wait 90 days
Referral points usually post the day after the application is approved (so usually the day after application). The applicant may have pressed ‘reject cookies’ when they clicked the link, or they may have not followed the link correctly, so it didn’t track – I’ve lost a few referrals that way.
Can confirm. I have BAPP card. I referred someone a week ago. They got almost immediate approval. 9k points posted next day.
The applicant needs to be sure to use the correct link – quite a few people fall foul of this and Amex tends to show no mercy if procedures haven’t been followed to the letter.

…until it’s time to hand out 75,000 retention points with no strings attached in a few months time!
Even that doesn’t seem to be guaranteed now, @Harrier, someone posted the other day that they’d been turned down twice for a retention bonus!
Thanks for help , Amex ears must of been burning lol as they have just posted the referral points 30 mins ago . Took a week but least I got them 🙂

It’s never been guaranteed, but over 85% of those asking get one and the amount offered is increasingly rapidly, so a lot better than ‘subject to availability’ upgrades and the like.
Where do you get that figure from, @JDB, just out of interest?

I’m not sure if it is really “just out of interest” but it is my job to analyse these things and the figure comes from several good sources. Separately you will find than two years of data posted here by over 400 different posters with successes and fails which exceed the 85%. The fails usually succeed quite shortly after initial rejection unless they decide just to close the card.
Amex has cleverly effectively added this benefit which is usually worth more than all the others combined.
