Thanks for all the additional data points. It does seem bizarre that there are so many different rates for the same amount of points.
Even more confusingly – if I go direct to the buy points page from the IHG site, the cost to buy 115k points is $1150, so $170 more than if I follow the link in the email. How can this possibly make any sense?
Because as status qualifying points they are more valuable – in terms of what you are actually buying (in this case status) than the points we normally buy.
If you followed the usual buy points link those wouldn’t be qualifying points.
That would be logical, except for the fact it is the other way around. The ones counting as EQP are the cheaper ones
Advice still applies though. Buying the same amounts of pointe the “normal” way won’t get you diamond.
Indeed. My point was really the bizarre way they are pricing the EQP version
How does the pricing of this offer compare to buying (elite qualifying) bonus points packages with flexible rates? Sometimes, depending on the property, those points can be good value.
@LD27. Thanks. Used to live in Zurich – hope you enjoyed that. Second time to Nuremberg – first with a child in tow. Love the city. This time here to see the Christmas markets – dining options so far picked by child include 3 sausages in a roll, crepe and churros. Don’t be too harsh – the crepe had fruit (strawberries) in it (as well as Nutella)…. The deal is we get to go to a restaurant tonight…
My offer is 85,000 points for $850, pity that we are not all getting the same points/$ value.
This is almost twice the cost that others are getting.
I’d value the 85,000 points at £340 so Diamond would cost me £345, that’s a lot of breakfasts!
If you stay as a family for 5 nights at an IC, that’s mostly paid for.
We mostly stay as a couple but do have some plans for stays next year so may be a good idea.
Was going to do a couple of nights locally before year end for £170 for the sole purpose of hitting 20 nights and the suite Upgrade but work got in the way.
Guess that would be £200 plus meals and drinks that I’ve saved, man maths…..:)I haven’t had the offer via email
HOWEVER
After logging into my account the offer is mentioned there
Presume it would count for me ????
I need 95k points and points.com are quoting $900
Hmmm. I didn’t get the offer via email and when I logged into IHG I didn’t see any offer either.
Can you tell me what the offer title is on your Offers page? Maybe I’m missing it somehow.. or it seems they genuinely don’t want to offer me anything 🙁
Some are saying that even without the email they can see the offer when they log in to their IHG account.
As I’m not seeing that either I gave the Diamond desk a call just to see if there’s any chance but I was told that this is a targeted offer and I’m specifically not eligible.
But it looks like everyone other than me and Rob’s wife is! :-/
Anyway, their loss. I had an IC stay coming up at the end of the month as well as 5-7 days in the Middle East in Feb. Those have now been cancelled and I’ll allocate the stays to Marriott instead.

It doesn’t show on my offers page FWIW (even though going back to the buy points page reveals they’ll happily sell another 65K EQP to me), but *this* did appear – handy!

Earn double points again and again
This is your sign to take the trip. And another.Earn 2X points starting on your second stay. Then keep earning on unlimited stays from January 1 to March 31, 2025.

I’m blocked from that offer also 🙁

Likely some Marriott stayers will have got the cheapest IHG offer and decided to move to IHG
I can only access it from the email, but then at $1100 for 110,000 points its useless anyway lol. Even if I was interested, theres no way I’d pay that knowing they offer the same thing to others for hundreds less tho.
Based on the Mastercard exchange rate, I would be paying £320 for the Diamond status for next year.
For IHG, I only have the following booked:
– Four nights at IC with AMB rate
– One night at a CPLooks like I would better renewing my AMB this year ..

You’ll still have to pay for breakfast on top of AMB rate.

It’s not hundreds less though.
It looks like IHG accidentally applied the 20% discount to everyone, realised the mistake and has removed it now. The 20% off was supposedly only for IHG credit card holders in US.
Everyone must be getting the same rate now.But it looks like everyone other than me and Rob’s wife is! :-/
If it make you feel any better You and Rob’s wife aren’t the only two, I also don’t qualify for the Qualifying points offer
My OH hasn’t got it either, despite currently being Diamond/Ambassador.
Before paying for this, it’s worth looking at whether it’s actually better value to book via Emyr to get the breakfast and other benefits. I recently booked 4 nights at the IC Madrid and it was actually cheaper than the IHG best flexi rate.

Thanks, I should get a quote of Emyr for the IC Madrid as I also booked 4 nights on the railcard rate, will have to assess if the price diff is worth it.
In my experience once the length of stay goes past 2/3 nights the value diminishes rapidly.
Remember you are paying a higher rate for each night and that can soon amount to paying more than the benefits gained.
Of course you can look for a rate with breakfast using the railcard rate then add $ 100 (or whatever amount it is Emyr gets you) and compare that to the BFR.
There’s a new / replacement scheme coming in from next year which might affect the cost/benefits dynamic.
The railcard rate doesn’t include breakfast, but of course it might sometimes work better to book this and pay for breakfast separately.
With the IC Madrid, I get upgrade, breakfast, lounge access or $100 credit, and Prado tickets for less than the IHG flexi rate.
I really shouldn’t try complicated stuff when I’ve not slept well!
You’re right and the RC rate doesn’t include breakfast but there are other room rates that do.
So as always the advice is to cost all the options.
Ha – I was racking my jet-lagged brain last night to try and work out whether a railcard rate was better value than a flexible with breakfast at a particular property for next year when I’m no longer diamond. Still not 100% sure! Going off something @meta said the other day, I’ve now settled on £15-20 being the max I’ll pay for two breakfasts, more than that and we’ll go elsewhere.

Thanks both for the tips and reminder of the changes to IHG Lux scheme in 25. Out of interest do either of you know similar ways to get discounted flexible rates (like the railcard rate for IHG) for Hyatt/Marriott/Hilton?
Quick word of warning and a heads-up for anyone who has done an IHG stay and accumulated additional Qualifying Points since 6th December – pay heed to this little gem from the fine print, as I’ve not seen it mentioned here yet:-
For purposes of the Offer, the required Elite Qualifying Points balance required to maintain or upgrade member status is the number communicated to the member in the Offer and may not be contested by a member.
I have the offer, 90000 points required (as at Dec 6th, per the Ts & Cs) for $700. I’ve subsequently completed a 5-night stay at a voco that earned me an additional ~15000 Qualifying Points so now I only need just under 75000 to reach the magic 120000 but were I to limit my purchase to 75000 then, per the clause above, I would not retain Diamond and have wasted my money.
So don’t go thinking you can buy fewer points than are mentioned in the email if you’ve recently had some stays credited to your account!
