I’ve got 100k points offer for $920 on the back of 8 nights this year.

I stayed in a Holiday Inn last week but that was using up some of my soon to expire Hotels.com credit!

    Need 110k at $960 🙁

19 nights this year, wonder if it will improve as I hit 20 nights this week

I’ll hit 40 nights by Christmas but only 3,800 points – so 120k needed. Not convinced I’ll be getting a better offer. Just mulling over pointing out to them the inequity of this all…

Thanks for all the additional data points. It does seem bizarre that there are so many different rates for the same amount of points.

Even more confusingly – if I go direct to the buy points page from the IHG site, the cost to buy 115k points is $1150, so $170 more than if I follow the link in the email. How can this possibly make any sense?

I have just over 40,000 points/34 nights, which includes recent activity still to post. I got the email this morning. 110,000 points is also $960 for me.

Have lounge access for next year and Ambassador status, so I assume I will drop to Platinum. Does anyone know if I will lose platinum status mid year if I don’t renew or will it last until end of 2025?

Have just come back from Nuremberg. HI was very busy but was upgraded to an apartment. Also had a number of other good upgrades this year and free breakfasts so haven’t made a decision yet as to whether to buy the points needed.

As others have mentioned, I think they must be worried about all the diamond members they could lose from UK at the end of December.

You may not be, but if you are… if you’re Amex Platinum did you try any of the 3x dining options here that are within dining credit? In Nuremberg now and wondering whether or not to bother going to one tomorrow…. Also wondering if any offer vouchers… 😉

I’m getting the 115,000 at $1180 as well. Only got 9 nights in this year and 7k points.
Valuing the points at 0.04 it would cost me around £470 net to keep diamond. Not worth it in my view

Not sure how you value them at 0.04
These are elite points, not redeemable points.

I believe that these points are definitely redeemable and the amount of points required to purchase is linked to your existing elite points – to take you over 120,000.

That’s very interesting, hope I have it when I can get back into my emails. Each 70k purchase gets me a night at the Kimpton Seafire so I can usually justify buying. If it comes with Diamond, all the better!

Confusion again between elite and redeemable points?

Also have this offer, I need 90k points for $875. Interestingly, this is the exact same price I paid for this offer last year, but for 70k points.

I reckon I can get about £400 worth of value out of 90k points, so net cost is about £290. Borderline, but I didn’t regret doing it this year so will probably go for it.

It might be the jet lag talking, but when you earn elite points from stays or from purchasing extra at the time of booking, that number of points also gets added to your redeemable balance, no?

If they’re just offering paid status then it’s probably not worth it, IMO.

IHG are definitely worried about the number of Diamonds losing status on 31 Dec…

I think I’m going to hold out. Given this signal, they’re likely to run a fast track offer in the new year, where a small number of X stays or nights gets Diamond back. I’ve got a fair bit of work stays to book Jan to Mar, so will easily meet any fast track promo requirements.

All points are redeemable but only some points are elite-qualifying

You are right, omaat has clarified this – you can also redeem the points.

Damn, the Americans get another 20% off for holding the ihg card.

It’s in T&C that these are redeemable, not that anyone including some of the bloggers bothered to read them.

A lot of people have been offered $800 for 120K plus additional 20% off, so only cost $640 for 1 year diamond member + 120k points.

If that’s the case I’m now more than a little annoyed and will be focusing my stays on Hilton (where I’m also Diamond). I also agree with earlier comment that that might lead to a cheap status challenge anyway…

My offer is 85,000 points for $850, pity that we are not all getting the same points/$ value.

This is almost twice the cost that others are getting.

I’d value the 85,000 points at £340 so Diamond would cost me £345, that’s a lot of breakfasts!

If you stay as a family for 5 nights at an IC, that’s mostly paid for.

I haven’t had the offer via email

    HOWEVER

After logging into my account the offer is mentioned there

Presume it would count for me ????

    I need 95k points and points.com are quoting $900

As long as the points.com page says they are EQP I think you will be ok

Woke up to the offer whilst currently starting at the IC in Hanoi and travelling to the IC danang today, so I’ve still got a number of EQP to post to my account.

I’ve tried to make use of my diamond ambassador status this year to capitalise on my waining benefits etc as I fully expected to go down to plat.

My offer is not that great, 70,000 points at 680 dollars. Assuming a 0.4p vape l value I think it puts my diamond cost at £200.

Now this year I’d say I’ve certainly used that sort of value in free breakfasts, but it’s taken some effort through mostly staying at IC hotels. Not sure if I want the ‘pressure’ next year lol and may consider other brands. That being said I have over 500k IHG points to redeem and getting a free breakfast on points stays is valuable

Because as status qualifying points they are more valuable – in terms of what you are actually buying (in this case status) than the points we normally buy.

If you followed the usual buy points link those wouldn’t be qualifying points.

But don’t forget being diamond gets you 100% bonus points on a cash stay whereas with plat it’s 60% and 40% for golds

Those extra points also have a cash value that you should accrue for in your calculations.

@Swiss Jim. No Amex Platinum so no dining offers. We started off in Zurich previous weekend and I then made my way by train and friends to Nuremberg where daughter rejoined me. Weekend options for dining we wanted were mostly by reservation only in both cities. Fortunately we booked in advance traditional Swiss and German restaurant including cholesterol busting fondue and raclette restaurants in Zurich! In Nuremberg we booked Albrecht Durer and Trodelstuben restaurants and when I spoke to Alte Ku’chen/Im Keller they said the Keller was full but could walk in at small ground floor Alte Ku’chen where we’d eaten on previous visit. We walked in early Saturday evening and waited at bar. Tightly packed tables but lots of atmosphere and pork shoulder!

Enjoy Nuremberg. We did. Although we were told the market was in the main square, there were lots of others too. If you have small children who want to go on rides, there is one just for them to the east of the main square. Adult wheel and plenty of food and drink close to the HI.
