Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Replacement Flight (Singapore Airlines)

  • 18 posts

    Hi,

My BA flight from Singapore to London was cancelled last night after three hours of delay (as an aside it was a total s**t show & BA customer service was atrocious including sending us to an overbooked hotel & not telling us they’d rebooked our flight).

They’ve rebooked us on a Singapore Airlines flight tonight, I can see they’ve transferred our Exec Club number over to the Singapore Airlines flight (despite not being the same alliance), I assume I won’t earn tier points or Avios on this though? I assumed not but was confused that it was showing on the Singapore Airlines manage my booking page..

    Thanks!

Correct, but if you have an account with a Star Alliance member you can get miles credited there. You probably have to decide where to credit it before the flight, as there is already an erroneous number in the booking.

You should also be able to claim Original Routing Credit from BA later.

You may also be able to earn Virgin Atlantic miles / points on the SQ flight (rather than Star Alliance).
    I have done this recently.

Great, thank you both! I didn’t know about the Original Routine Credit so that’s helpful!

Be aware that BA has recently declined ORC if you earn miles through another alliance. Not sure how they know that but it might be if they request copy of BP and see other alliance FF no on it. Still worth trying both credit to other alliance and ORC anyway.

@1958 I thought the tie up between Singapore and Virgin had recently officially ended meaning you can no longer earn Virgin points. I think I recall a HfP article mentioning it

Found it. It officially ends on 23 April so you can still credit until that date.

Yes, BA has got a bit more savvy about this. The official line is:-

Other than in relation to special promotions, British Airways does not permit the credit of Tier Points or Avios points where a Member is earning credits within another loyalty programme in respect of the same Services. If Tier Points or Avios points are credited in such a situation, they are subject to recapture.”

    > Original Routine Credit

The wonders of auto-correct. I guess it means that cancelled flights and getting rebooked elsewhere is common enough to be considered routine 🙂

It applies to other OW flights.

Have had a couple of AA flights cancelled and switched to other carriers yet BA still gave me the TPs even though one was to virgin and the other to jet blue

In terms of claiming the original routing credit is it best to do this separately from the main claim for compensation (best to call?)? I’m worried that the year end for tier points is in a month’s time & this flight will get me to bronze so don’t want to miss it!

ORC and compensation are completely different — make two claims.
