Virgin Atlantic ends its partnership with Singapore Airlines

Despite having been a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance for almost two years, Virgin Atlantic retains earning and burning mileage partnerships with a number of other airlines.
The one we cover most is Japanese carrier ANA because Virgin Points give you a chance to try their exceptional business and First Class products. There are also deals with Air New Zealand, EL AL, Hawaiian Airlines, IndiGo (earning only, no redemptions), LATAM, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways and Virgin Australia.
As you can read here, the Singapore Airlines partnership is ending on 23rd April.

You can no longer redeem Virgin Points, earn Virgin Points or earn Virgin Flying Club tier points after that. Gold members will not receive any elite benefits when flying Singapore Airlines.
Got a flight booked?
- Is it a redemption? Good news. You can book by 23rd April for a later date, although you won’t be able to make any changes except for cancellations.
- Is it a cash flight? Bad news. Even if your flight is already booked, you won’t be able to earn Virgin Points or tier points on a Singapore Airlines flight taken after 23rd April. You also won’t receive any benefits if you have Virgin Flying Club Gold status, such as extra 23kg baggage allowance, lounge access, use of business class check in, priority baggage and priority boarding.
In terms of redeeming Virgin Points, this isn’t a great loss.
You can forget Singapore Airlines for long haul because redemptions in business and First Class on the A380-800, 777-300ER and A350-900 fleets are excluded. This covers all flights from Europe to Singapore. You can book regional Singapore Airlines flights around Asia in premium cabins which may be handy if travelling in the region.
The biggest losers are probably Virgin Flying Club Gold members who could access elite benefits, including lounges, when flying with Singapore Airlines – as well as earning a chunk of tier points towards their status renewal and a pile of Virgin Points on top.
