Well you both peer pressured me into HUCA a few months ago ;p. Sent two follow ups, got friendly replies they are still awaiting responses from Iberia. In the meantime I’ve almost made up for the difference in Iberia metal & Air Nostrum flights which all neatly credited. If all flight do eventually get recognised, it’s gravy toward status retention.

It seems sensible to have a few extra segments in hand anyway as if Iberia chooses to be awkward and not credit some Iberia Express or Air Nostrum ones (or indeed any mainline ones), there’s realistically nothing to be done. Iberia will gleefully inform anyone claiming anything for an Air Nostrum flight, including EC261, that it is an entirely separate airline and corporate entity.

There’s a lot to like. I try to avoid CS for the reasons given above – the only time I have ever had to contact them about anything I received a cut and paste response telling me to basically get stuffed. But they are punctual, efficient and their basica fares cost buttons. You can cancel for free within 24 hours and if (and when) they cancel your booking, they swiftly provide a refund or credit voucher (happily I’ve never needed to try and get EU261 rights out of them). It’s like the golden heyday of the LCCs, but with OWE benefits!

@titaniumostrich I’m not sure your missing Iberia flights will help towards re-qualifying if you’ve already reached platinum. As I understand it you need 80 flights in the 2 years after you qualify, but your Iberia flights will be dated before you qualified, so won’t be in the 2 year period.

I’ve got 3 Iberia flights in October. If they credit correctly, I’ll gain have my Platinum qualifying flight on 23rd November. BA take around 4 days to update, so will appear on account on 27th November, and I’ll hit platinum on 28th November, meaning my return flight on 27th will probably miss being part of my 2 year period too.

If they don’t get credited correctly, then I’ll hit Platinum on 6th December, then when they are credited they’ll be outside of the 2 year period too.

You’ve got a valid point. Come to mention it I’ve already lost flights since they fell off the 1-year cycle. Nevertheless I’ve already decided to implement a buffer once I hit platinum, to go well over the flights required for retention, as JDB stated the bare minimum is a gamble. (Well actually it’s all a gamble, but there in lies the amusement.)

    I get you.
I do count myself lucky that BA changed their earning structure so that everyone started talking about RJ otherwise I’d have been none the wiser.

Most years I did 20 or 22 BA flights, usually last minute and high value (for their route) and would never have any decent amount of TPs to hit Bronze.

Granted I’ve had many more flights this year, but even under BA’s new rules Id still not hit Bronze under the spend of fly only BA metal rule. Now I get decent perks, and I’m trying to hit Platinum so I can give a colleague the other card and when more than 2 of us fly for work we can all enjoy the benefits.

@titaniumostrich glad we’re a good influence and not a bad one lol! Fingers crossed you get your segments credited at some point.

As said by you and JDB, I think probably worth getting a couple of extra in the bag to be safe. currently planning to be only 1 over but will revise now. Possibly a day trip to Belfast – good prices LHR-BHD in CE in current sale, only £40 more than ET!

Good to hear re Air Nostrum, and glad to the positive report flying with them @NorthernLass. I won’t worry too much then if I get swapped at the last minute.
