We holiday in the Salzkammergut annually at the end of July into August for two weeks. Typically we fly EDIMUC/MUCEDI and pick up our hire car there. The two week cost tends to vary between £350 – £500 each year for a single driver and a Mondeo sized vehicle with Hertz.
This year we decided to fly EDIFRASZG return (costs were excellent). However, the car hire options out of SZG are eye-watering (c.£900 for a Renault Cactus for two weeks)… the reduced Hotac, Flight and Fuel costs largely bridge the cap in costs but there’s no savings 🙁
Does anybody have any thoughts on how to get a better deal?
We are Hertz and Avis Presidents Club and Europcar Privilege. We’d prefer to avoid some of the “niche” providers out of SZG based on online reviews.
TIA for the ideas.
Did ypu check hiring in town vs from the airport? Have you checked the usual car hire consolidators?
