Quick query – I got the SAS Gold status match and have flown one return so far, does that count as 2 cash SAS flights or one in terms of keeping the status until Sept 26 as detailed in the original article?
ie do they count ‘flights’ or sectors or bookings? You can keep your status for another year by doing the following:
Silver – take two cash SAS flights by 31st March 2025
Gold – take five cash SAS flights by 31st March 2025A return counts as 2 flights, they do it by sector.
We are keen to keep our EB Gold status. Do we need to book the five flights with SAS or can it be with a SkyTeam partner but booking with our EB number?

I don’t know but would be surprised if anything other than SAS metal counted.

It has to be cash flights with SAS

It has to be SAS metal, i.e.
SAS
SAS Connect
SAS Linkor a wetlease partner operating services on behalf of SAS with an SK flight number, e.g.
Cityjet – operates CRJ-900 aircraft for SAS
Xfly – operates a mix of CRJ-900 and ATR-72 for SASNote that any flight operated by or on behalf of Wideroe (Xfly also operate some Wideroe flights) even if booked as part of an SAS itinerary with an SAS flight number WILL NOT count as one of the SAS sectors required to extend status. Rule of thumb: if you can book the same sector separately on Wideroe’s website under a WF flight number it won’t count.
Note that Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA) will take over Xfly’s regional SAS wetleases from January 1st flying ATR-72s so SAS (SK) flights operated by BRA in 2025 will also count, though any BRA flight up to 31st December 2024 is under their own flight schedule and will not.
Wanted to report my experience with SAS this weekend and the status extension.
Booked EDI-ARN-CPH-BGO and BGO-OSL-ARN-EDI 6 segments totally £230 for a long weekend in Bergen. Mixture of SAS, SAS Link and SAS Connect.
Destination Highlights
– Bergen itself was stunning, rainy but still highly enjoyable. Small enough to explore many places via foot. Was tempted to buy the Bergen card for unlimited transport which would have costed £30 but opted instead to explore with no public transport and was glad I did so. The view from the Floyen was breathtaking and worth the hike up.Flight/Travel Highlights
– 6 SAS flights; no delays and 5 out of the 6 arrived AHEAD of schedule
– Absolutely amazed at the SAS App – this is what an airline app should be like (BA should take notes). From real time boarding progress updates; automatic notification when there is a gate change; data on where the aircraft is flying in from and to & live seating information to see where there are gaps and ability to change even when checked in. An overall great customer UX and showed what Tech investment can result in
– Priority boarding adhered to perfectly: EBG/Sky Team Elite Plus boarding group 1; and the gate I believe beeps if you are boarding with the wrong group (they turned several passengers round due to this
– Theoretical Seat Blocking – I believe as EBG they try to block the seat next to you (as long as no other elite picks it). On all 6 of my flights; the seat next to me was free
– Points posted instantly when the aircraft LANDED
– Both ARN and OSL are easy to connect in; CPH was the only one where the walk was more than 10mins
– In Economy, a Hot drink was complimentary
– Free Wifi for EBG for most flights on the new A320neos and was very fast – I was able to browse/load multiple web pages no botherFlight/Travel Lowlights
– SAS had no lounge access for their elites at EDI or BGO which I thought was a bit cheap. I mean imagine paying for SAS Plus/Business with no Lounge access
– Lounges had terrible food options: Breakfast was dire (with ZERO hot food options) and Lunch only had 2 HOT food options – Soup and Meatballs/Mash – the rest was salad (having said that the Salad bar was great and had loads of interesting options)
– Lounges were busy; CPH at late morning/early lunch time was rammed. I’m guessing with it being the Long Haul hub this was to be expected
– In Economy, Water was not complimentaryOVERALL, I would travel with SAS again but only within Scandinavia. Very Efficient and Organised. Elite perks were well respected within their 3 hubs (but not in their outstations)
Nice update, I was also impressed with my weekend trip to Stockholm, although the Amex lounge in ARN was far superior to the SAS offering.
Have you had confirmation that the 5 segments have extended your status to Sept 2026??

I’m not sure there will be confirmation – I’ve done the required flights and had nothing so far but as the flights can be taken until 31 March 2025, if there is going to be confirmation maybe it’ll be after that date.

It has always shown July 2026 as the status expiry date when I first got it, but I did want to make sure I did the 5 flights to ensure there was no room for dispute,

Strange I’ve taken four flights and have a September 2026 current status expiry date …

Yes – but that only remains if you do 5 flights by end of March
