Should I keep or cancel Gold CC

What would you do in the following situation?
I cancelled Platinum 6 month ago in order to start the 24 month clock
Saw Gold -> Platinum 40k bonus and opened Gold CC, upgrade to Platinum with 40k bonus declined via phone and not eligible online

If the main motivator is signup offer, would you
1) cancel Gold and start 24 month clock again
OR
2) keep Gold for a year hoping to have a similar 40k offer and eventually be eligible

I do not have any other Amex cards.

Would appreciate your views on this.

I prefer to close and restart the clock as plat SUB are in the region of 60k now. In the mean time why not look into Barclays (if you qualify offering 150k avios) while waiting for a BAPP uplift that you would be eligible for (assuming not had it in last 24 months).
