Forums Payment cards American Express Spend on the Companion voucher anniversary date or day after?

My BAPP card anniversary date is 04/09/2024. I am aiming to spend £10k by the 1st of November to trigger the 241 before the threshold increases to £15k.

I have a few time sensitive online purchases to make and keen to make them as soon as possible, can I purchase them on 04/09/2024 or do I need to wait till 05/09/2024 to buy them?

Is the 4th last day of the old year or the first day of the new year?

If the former then I’d hold off.

If you want to be sure of not spending too early, check your recent PDF statements. There’s a page ‘Avios earned with your BA Amex card’ with a section lower down ‘companion voucher’. If you have earned this year’s voucher it will state the anniversary date up until which you are not earning towards a voucher. The next day is when you can safely start spending. The date your membership fee is charged, date you opened your card etc. may not be exactly aligned, so the PDF statement information is the only safe reference point.

That’s exactly my question… is the anniversary date the last or first day?… it’s frustrating that AMEX don’t make it easy to understand. I agree with you I think I’ll wait.

Many thanks. I’ve just checked as you suggested and looks like I will have to wait until the 5th.

Just to say we triggered our two the other day after holding back spend on a couple of cards until timings worked out.

We picked our date to resume usage and found that the voucher took a bit of time for a few reasons. Firstly unfortunately a handful of larger spend places (car tyres after a failed MOT, then a car main dealer for a service) didn’t accept the Amex even after I’d consulted the nifty Amex map which of course must have been inaccurate.

But most annoyingly it took a surprising amount of time for some transactions to clear. Amazon / JL transactions wouldn’t move from “pending” until delivery was being made, weekend transactions not registering until middle of following week etc. And then once the tracker had indicated £10k done, another couple of days to get the “congrats” email from BA for earning my companion vouchers.

I guess if I could offer any advice, it’s to allow for quirks in the process such that precise date objectives may not quite work out as intended.
