I called BA to request a transfer of my late father’s Avios points to my account (he was a frequent flyer). They agreed and said it would take 7-10 days, but 4 weeks and multiple calls later they aren’t able to give me any update, they just offer to put the request through again. I’ve uploaded the necessary documents. Any advice on how to get this sorted out?
Sorry to hear about your father. It would have been much easier to just be in a HHA with him and use his points that way.
I don’t know if your late father’s solicitor could write to BA pointing out that it was his wish that his avios were transferred to you and you would be grateful if BA could expedite this at this difficult time?
Agree with above, or a short and factual email to the CEO may yield a better response as the executive team can sometimes be a little more empowered to investigate / remedy properly
I’m sorry to say but 4 weeks is too soon to be chasing this.
BA has a huge backlog of all sorts of claims and issues which they are working through to try and clear as soon as they can.
You’ve apparently already provided all the documents they need and I don’t see how a solicitors letter will help as all that will happen is that it will get scanned and uploaded into your claim for someone to read when your claim reaches the top of the queye
So sorry to hear about your father.
My brother in law died 2 years ago. My sister’s solicitor wrote to BA and uploaded all the documents required, eg will (I assume to prove she was entitled to inherit them) and it took well over a month for the Avios to be transferred to her. They were in a household account. I would just wait a little longer. I’m sure you will hear from them before too long.
It’s good that BA are willing to transfer Avios on death, as per the BAEC terms and conditions:
“3.12.2. Upon the death of a Member. Any Avios points, Tier Points and Lifetime Tier Points accumulated by that Member but unused at the time of death shall be cancelled.”
Hopefully the OP will get a positive result soon.
FWIW, when my dad died (with me as the sole beneficiary), I was in a HHA with him and that made things much easier. It was a case of moving excess Avios from my account elsewhere (via Combine my Avios), then use the remaining HHA balance for a redemption flight. I then moved my Avios back again, meaning my dad’s account now had zero Avios. Job done!

I do this periodically for everyone in my HHA except my wife, as they have no interest in avios. They only fly cheapest economy and I view the few hundred avios they get from that as my fee for helping them book their (paid) flights.
