Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
Hi everyone. I’m still left with £1000 worth of spend to do on my Gold card by Jan-end to reach the SUB milestone. Since I don’t have any major expenses coming up, I was thinking of booking a refundable flight ticket worth £1k.. and then cancelling it after Jan.
I’m assuming since the refund will come in after the SUB spend period is over, the SUB points won’t be reversed. Can someone please confirm the same? Thanks!
It will be reversed; if the points are no longer in your account you will be left with a negative balance.
So don’t do that. Do some of this:

Not sure of your circumstances, but on the BAEC website you can take out an AVIOS Subscription, there are various different levels, if you need to accrue the spend by end of January you would need to do a yearly one, my understanding is they aren’t the best cash for points ratio, but if you are saving for a particular flight it might work for you, better than say tying money up in gift cards.
