Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Tier point grace period

With the tier point two week grace period, how does it work? Do the points get deducted from the current year and reassigned to the previous year, or are the same points counting towards both years.

Secondly, with recent flights I’ve noticed the post date is a few days after the flown date. I assume it’s the flown date that the 2 week grace period applies to?

    Hello,

I did this for 2022 and this is how it worked.

TPs depend on the flight date not when you get them. So if your year ends 8th Feb 2023 and you fly on the 7th but don’t get the TPs until the 10th there is no problem. They will be credited to the correct year.

However, grace period works in a weird way (for me at least). In this case say you have 550 TPs on the last day of your year and then get 200 the week after. I emailed BA and chased them and also chatted with them. Eventually they sort of “accepted” 550 + 200 > 600 hence you get silver but didn’t change any date (so I still have 200 TPs this year). They also gave silver status starting this year (instead of the previous one). So you get two full years of status.

This was after lots of chasing so don’t know if they did something manual. They say it can take up to 2 weeks (but in my case it was almost a month). So careful if you have plans just afterwards.

I think it’s a manual process so all sorts of errors/surprises are possible. I did it before covid and also kept the tier points that were used for the previous year. I only got 1 year of status though.

Thanks everyone – I should hit silver fairly easily in the new tier point year and there’s a good chance I can stretch to hit gold so wanted to make sure I wasn’t sacrificing anything for it.

Hi everyone, new here! Piggybacking on an old chain on the same topic.

I wondered if anyone has had any experience with getting the two-week grace period applied recently? I took an additional internal UK business flight for the sole purpose of pushing myself above the 600 TP threshold for silver within the grace period (within the two weeks after my tier point collection year ended in January). After the tier points hit my account, I contacted BA to ask if they could manually change my status to silver as people have suggested but after well over a month and multiple follow-ups (responded to by customer services with assurances that someone in the Executive Club team was investigating) I have not heard anything back and I’m starting to get a bit nervous. I have booked quite a few flights for the rest of the year on the assumption that I’d be able to retain my silver status by utilising the grace period…

If any one has had any recent experiences or tips on who exactly to contact/how to ‘escalate’ would be much appreciated!

    Thanks a lot in advance
