Forums Payment cards American Express Unable to link Amex cards to Nectar Connect

  • mkwmendip 11 posts

Hi, anyone else having issues with adding Amex cards on Nectar Connect? I already have four Amex cards linked and want to add another new card. However, no luck (have tried from PC, iPad & iPhone), Nectar Connect is unable to access the Amex login page via TrueLayer to make the connection. Seems to be an Amex specific issue as Nectar was able to access the Barclays and Nationwide login pages and I connected a couple of cards. Spoke with TrueLayer who referred me to Amex who referred me back to Nectar! Amex and Nectar reps clearly did not understand what Nectar Connect is 🤷 – now waiting for a Nectar “expert” to call back. Any ideas anyone?

    Remove all the Amex cards.
Go through the add process again.

I’ve found the Amex linking problematic, specifically renewing the linkage. Above is the only way it works for me!

Okay, I had thought about that so tried it – successfully removed the four AMEX cards that were linked, but now unable to add any – same issue as before 🤷. Back to Nectar CS 🤞. Thanks anyway.

I’ve got the same problem. I rang up CS yesterday so they know about the problem. Glad it’s not just me.

Have contacted Nectar CS & they are on the case allegedly. My daughter has the same issue so appears to be generic not Customer specific. Will post if I get any updates.

Tried that yesterday. No problem removing the cards. Same problem trying to add them from scratch.

I had thought that I was unable to update the connection because they kept on linking to my long since cancelled Gold Amex, but that clearly was not the problem. I assume that it is IT gremlins somewhere…

Yes, looks very much line there is a generic issue with logging into Amex from Nectar Connect – the more people that contact Nectar CS about this the more likely it is that zNectar will get it resolved quickly.

Yes, their chat was trying to convince me it was specific to my browser and unwilling to listen to me pointing out that my phone had the same issue when logged in. They were pushing me towards Chrome. Just had to explain again to another advisor that this is specific to their comms between Nectar and AMEX.

Just had a chat with another customer service rep who said they’re aware and trying to fix the issue.

Received this explanation/update from Nectar CS – don’t hold your breath for a fix!

“ Thanks for contacting us regarding being unable to link to Nectar Connect with your American Express card.

Amex has made a breaking change to the way in which customers grant permissions.

The change aligns them with the Open Banking standards set out by the FCA.

Whilst this is going on, we have temporarily closed the Amex page on Connect, which is why you’re seeing the error.

We dont have a definitive timescale for it being reopened, but please keep checking in the meantime.

I apologise if this has caused any inconvenience.

If you need any further assistance, please contact the Nectar helpline on 0344 811 0 811 (Open Mon- Fri 9am – 5.30pm and Sat 9am – 5pm), or you can speak to us online via our chat service and social media platforms where one of our agents will be happy to help you further.

    Kind regards,

    Kelly

They were pushing me towards Chrome.

I really hate Chrome. I really dislike its user interface, but I also hate the way some organisations are now writing web pages that only work on Chrome and its clones.

Today I was having to read a letter from the administrators of a pre-paid funeral plan to the plan members. It mentioned that they had a website with much more detailed info – good in principle, though I suspect that the proportion of non internet savvy customers will be higher among Funeral Plan buyers than almost any other product.
They went on to actually say that the site was only accessible using “Google Chrome” or “Microsoft Edge”. I assume that other Chrome based browsers would work, but really!
I know that the web has “developed” since I was writing web pages, but it cannot be that difficult to make sure that your HTML works on any browser!

Just checked and still says temporarily unavailable. Good to see nectar IT as crap as usual. It’s annoying as there’s an offer I want to use that expires tomorrow!

You’ve never been able to link Virgin Atlantic cards. You can link all sorts of bizarre cards but linking a Virgin Atlantic card has never been an option. Farcical.
