Hello,
I’m moving to Australia from the UK so my economy flight ticket will be paid for by my new job. I would like to upgrade this economy ticket to business (around 80-100k, depending on economy ticket grade). I’d prefer to have booked a reward seat (90k) but there are none left.
My question is – if I book an economy ticket, and there are business seats available, is the upgrade by Avois guaranteed? Or is it based on how many seats they have allocated to Avois/rewards vs payment?
If anyone has done this before, was it simple enough to upgrade?
An alternative I have found is booking the first available reward seat for 90k + £400ish. If the date is okay, great. If it’s not, I can change it for 25USD. But I’m worried the date will be one where it’s only shoring ‘flexi award’ tickets available. Do you know if I’d still be able to change to these dates?
Thank you in advance.
Relatively easy to upgrade online or in the app. You’ll need availability and it will be per sector. So to Doha and then to Sydney separately. Last I checked it was 40000 Avios and just under £100 Edinburgh to Doha to upgrade an economy ticket

When you say availability, do you mean any business class seats being available or specific reward seats?
Thanks! I truly hope it is easy as I have the Avios required to upgrade and will only cost me a few hundred, I reckon?
Would this be upgrading one hop at a time?
To upgrade using avios there needs to be reward seats available and not just seats in bunny class.

Haha! I was waiting for the bunny jokes to come 🤭 My eagerness and anxiety to figure this out meant I forgot my basic English skills!
But damn, that’s not gonna help me. Most flights I am looking at don’t have the reward seats available for Business. They have the ‘flexi’ seats available so at double the Avios. Don’t suppose those would count?
