Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Upgrading virgin holidays flights and using companion voucher?

My understanding is that if I book a Virgin Holiday in a premium economy seat, as long as there’s reward availability in Upper Class then I can use my premium CC voucher to upgrade and I’d just pay the difference in taxes. I assume the tax for the premium seat is already part of my ticket price and hence it will be a few £100 extra for the return (this is to North America).

As a Silver member, what would be the most efficient way to get my friend upgraded too? I’m not sure the voucher can be used as a ‘companion’ unless redeeming for points only, then both paying the full taxes.

Or, we just book the hotel and flight independently and I redeem my points for 1 x UC seat and then get the 2nd for no extra points. The reason I’d like to book with virgin is I can get a rebate on the cash price paid (a private work benefit) and also collect the miles and tier points.

It will be a few hundred extra for the extra carrier surcharges in UC on an upgrade – as you say, the true taxes are likely to be the same for PE and UC

You can only use one voucher for upgrade or as a companion voucher (matching whichever cabin you book). It will work as the latter with a cash fare, but you’d still need to pay the full taxes and fees on the second ticket.

If you had two vouchers, you could upgrade two PE cash fares. If you only have one you could use it upgrade both of you in one direction only.
