I booked a redemption flight this morning, but then called them to add my return flight from a different city (open jaw) and she said return wasn’t available any more (although it keeps showing on the website for the last 5 hours!). She said if I cancelled the first flight I’d need to pay a £30 admin charge even within 24 hours. Is that correct? I thought BA and Virgin had a 24 hour cooling off period for full refund. Is that not applicable to points bookings.
Also, the fact that the booking keeps showing as available is misleading. I transferred my points from Amex because of that. How do we know in future if a flight really is available!

Note the 7 day booking withn a flight section. Is that your situation?

Thanks, I came across that article when I searched after the call. I can’t see the tab that Rob’s article shows of a cooling off period of 24 hours on Virgin’s website any more. I thought I’d ask here and also highlight as in case things have changed a lot of people could get caught out.
Could you not just have booked the return leg separately?

Sorry, you are right about the 7 days, but when I booked my flight was just over 7 days away. Now its under 7 days.

Yes that’s what I ended up doing (booking the two legs as separately), but taxes have worked out too expensive. The CS rep herself said it would be cheaper if they were booked together as multicity. Surprisingly, she said since return was from USA to Lon, I could see availability that they couldn’t as I paid the return in USD so she couldn’t rebook it for me on one ticket. Bizarre. Also, checked about £30 fee within cooling off period and this CS said there would be no fee. Disappointed at the inconsistent service.
