On the Virgin Red App there is/was a deal with Octopus Energy, points for switching to them. My situation is that i am moving address soon, and the existing supplier at new house is Octopus. I’m thinking that although i would be a “new” customer, I wouldnt have done an actual switch, so doubtful would qualify for the points offer…
Anyone had a similar scenario ? and how did it play out ?Thanks
How many points is it? You can get £50 via a referral & if you Google then there are plenty of sites offering to split the referee £50 with you as well (so £75 in total). Not sure how reliable those payouts are but there’s nothing to lose!
To answer your original question, you would be a new customer so I’d expect you to qualify although chances of the tracking via Virgin failing probably more than minimal in your scenario. Octopus customer services are pretty good so give them a call. I know they can manually process referrals so if there’s any doubt that route may be safest option?
The T&Cs say “Existing Octopus customers who have become customers of Octopus through other means will not be eligible.”
You would be becoming a customer by deemed contract on the day you move in, rather than by switching, so I would not think it would work, but as Thegasman says you could ask their CS.
You could also switch to Octopus now at your current address (as long as you are still there for more than 4 weeks)… it may not pay out as you will have moved out by 45 days, but I would think you have a good case for getting the points exceptionally because you will still be a customer just at another address. Plus octopus will still be supplying the next resident of your old place, at least for 3 weeks…
Thegasman – 7400 points, but thats over the course of 3 years using gas & electricity, so its not particularly lucrative anyway.
John – only at current address for another 2 weeks ( ish ).
I will give it a go via CS once things have settled down a bit at new place.
Thanks for the feedback both, appreciated.
The 50 pounds referral offer works like a charm. My partner (we live apart) referred me and we both got it within two weeks.
hi, would anyone like to refer me for the Octopus scheme? Looking to switch asap.
Is refer a friend stackable with Virgin Red points offer?

oops, you just beat me too it ! Captain Dave, I started the switch to octopus on Tuesday, they are supplying today and have been sending e-mail updates at least twice a day. I have never seen anything done so quickly before. so you have time before you move.
@strickers – I *think* I just used your link
Main thing with Octopus is to set your DD at £1.
Then pay what you like using your card every month (day, week, year etc) and earn points that way.
I did the £50 Referral in the end, rather than Virgin points, CS told me that the 50 will show on account once i have paid first D/D ( early august )
