Forums Payment cards American Express Want to apply for BAPP 60K Avios offer, but already have 2 Amex cards

Having missed the previous 50K BAPP offer in Feb/March this year, I am now tempted to take advantage of the BAPP 60K Avios offer. However, I already have the Platinum Card and the Rewards Credit Card with substantial limit on Platinum card.

I tried to cancel the platinum card today but was offered 35K MR points, so have kept it for now but will try and cancel it after a week.

My question is that asI already have two cards with combined limit of 27k or so, should I now apply for BAPP now or cancel Platinum first and then apply for BAPP.

    Thanks!

Whilst the retention offer doesn’t really have any conditions on it, Amex might not look too favourably on someone that takes the offer, cancels a week later, and then applies for another card.

Many people have 3 Amex cards, including myself, so I don’t think already having 2 cards is an issue.

If you’re worried about being declined due to the high credit limits available to you, then you might want to consider lowering your CL on the Plat, but there’s no guarantee you will be accepted, and I don’t think you can reverse it. But, if you’re not planning to keep the Platinum, then I guess it doesn’t matter.

£27k is not ‘substantial’ as a limit unless your income is £35k or so. If you’re earning £75k+ then you have a lot more flexibility.

Cut your existing Amex limits (can be done online) to 3-4x the max you would ever spend in a month and then wait a month (the BA Amex offer runs for a while) and then apply.
