Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Whose checked luggage rules apply? BA’s or AA’s?

Morning, I have an Economy Avios booking, made on BA, for domestic AA flights – I am BA silver.

Just had a look in MMB, and it is saying “No checked bag” for my luggage arrangements – but I booked via BA, and have BA status.

I was able to choose seats immediately for example at the time of booking.

I think I expected that BA’s silver status luggage rules would carry over here, but of course, I have no experience of these things, so looking for advice!

    TIA

Usually US domestic flights on their own do not include checked luggage and is usually charged at check in/bag drop. However for oneworld sapphire and above these fees are waived which you are. You should get 2 bags I believe included, though I could be wrong here and it may be one.

Yes – when you check in your bags (last time at DCA you weighed them yourself and attached the label the machine spits out), the system recognises your status and doesn’t charge as long as you don’t go over the limit. You should get lounge access as well, if there is one, even though I think US passengers with equivalent status don’t get it on domestic flights!

    This is excellent 😁

    Thanks @LittleNick and @NorthernLass !!

As a rule of thumb: only BA hand baggage only fares are truly hand baggage only regardless of status.

Most, if not all, other OneWorld companies will let you check in a bag if you buy a hand baggage only fare and you are saphire or emerald.

Really wish BA would get in line with other oneworld airline and give baggage to elites, would feel like a genuine saving/status benefit

Wow @yonasl – I’m on a HBO fare in a couple of days time and had you not made that comment, I would have thought I had checked luggage due to status – I do not!

Not impressed as I’ve bought something from the High Life Shop thinking I had checked luggage on the way back, but cheers for the heads up all the same!

They may well be looking for volunteers to check hand baggage!

I can confirm that if you’re BAEC Silver then you can check-in 2 bags for free, maximum weight is 23KG.

I booked directly with AA (basic economy) and provided my BAEC number on booking. On the email it says I can check-in 2 bags for free, I also called AA and recorded the call with them confirming each passenger is allowed 2 check-in bags with each one not weighing more than 23kg.

If you’re BAEC Hold then you can take 3 check-in bags for free (same weight restrictions).

You could have just read this thread (or AA website) instead of doing all that 😂

Serves me right for not doing the No1 rule, search before posting (DOH!)
