Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards

Marriott Rewards is the loyalty scheme for Marriott, Renaissance, Ritz-Carlton, AC and Courtyard hotels amongst others. You earn points which can be used for free nights or transferred into frequent flyer miles including Avios points. The Ritz-Carlton Rewards is the same scheme but with a different membership card and different branding on its website.

I published an extensive two-part review of Marriott Rewards which can be found here and here. The latest promotions can be found on our 'Hotel Promos' page.

Which is the most generous hotel programme for earning Avios points?

The general consensus about hotel loyalty programmes is that Starwood Preferred Guest is the only scheme where it is is worthwhile trading your points for airline miles. There are a couple of reasons for this.  The first is that – since the conversion rate for most […]

1000 Marriott or IHG points from Hertz for almost everyone and an Accor/Hertz status match

A couple of years ago, Hertz and Le Club AccorHotels launched a partnership.  It has been pretty quiet since then but it seems that the key benefits – a Hertz status match and a chunk of free Hertz points – are still available. Hertz is offering […]

Use your Marriott or SPG status on United Airlines (and vice versa) via RewardsPlus

How to earn SPG or Marriott points when you fly Delta, Emirates and China Eastern

One thing that is going to be lost when the merger of Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest completes is the ability to earn Starwood Preferred Guest hotel points when you fly three airlines. This is an underappreciated benefit of Starwood Preferred Guest.  Unfortunately, as […]

Is Marriott backtracking on 5-months of Platinum status for Amex Platinum cardholders?

The upcoming merger of Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest is, frankly, turning out better than most people hoped.  Marriott is genuinely taking the best of the two existing programmes.  If anything, I think they may have overdone it as the new scheme will be […]

An exceptional new Middle East beach redemption using Marriott Rewards or SPG points

Long-term readers of Head for Points will remember that last year I visited The Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi desert resort in Ras Al-Khaimah about 60 minutes drive from Dubai International Airport. The standard ‘room’ at Al Wadi Desert is the 1,700 square foot Al Rimal villa.  This […]

Bits: Good Etihad fare to Oz for Christmas, 100% bonus buying Hilton points, F1 and tennis with SPG/Marriott

News in brief: Good Etihad fare to Australia for Christmas I’ve had a few emails recently asking about cheap cash flights to Australia over Christmas.   As this is a non-starter for Avios – and anyway is terrible value given the taxes – you need to […]

The Amex Plat / Marriott status answer and what else I learned at the Marriott press briefing yesterday

Loyalty press conferences in the UK are a funny old thing, because there aren’t actually that many people to invite!  Thus it was that four usual suspects – plus a mysterious woman who I didn’t even notice until the end, who didn’t speak and I […]
