I wish to refer my OH for the Amex Gold for the bonus AVIOS. I’m a bit new to this and am not sure if it is best to have OH have own BAEC account, or for me as an account holder to open a household account, that the SUB gold miles could go straight into.
I’ve been reading the forum for 4 or 5 days now, but can’t seem to work out what’s best.
One of the things that I noted was there would be a charge if we wanted to transfer miles form OH’s personal account to min. The gold card application says either enter you BAEC account number or we will create one for you. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I haven’t been able to find it.
If your OH doesn’t have an Executive Club account then they will need one.
They cannot transfer Avios earned from Amex direct to your executive Club account. They will get membership reward points on the gold card which they can then convert into Avios into their account.
Once your OH has an executive club account, you can then create a household account which pools both of your Avios when you make a redemption (without any charge).
But the Avios will remain in your OH’s executive club account.
It will make sense once you’ve done it. I realise, in trying to explain it, that it really isn’t that simple!
Thank you so much Frogge (great name), I will get OH to open up an account. Then when he applies for the card there will be an account number in situ that can be entered on the application.
This seems the most sensible route and also the email addresses on his AMEX and BAEC will be the same, whereas if I do open an household account it would be my email, Presumably we could just book separate tickets our own accounts anyway. One on each.
