Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 1,000 bonus Avios for a Clubcard conversion IF you’ve not converted for a year

British Airways has launched a tiny bribe to encourage people to convert their Tesco Clubcard vouchers to Avios points this quarter.

If you convert £5 or more of Tesco Clubcard vouchers to Avios (via British Airways Executive Club) before 30th June, you will receive a bonus of 1,000 Avios points.

The terms and conditions are slightly contradictory.  They start off by saying:

“1000 Avios bonus offer is open to customers who have not previously exchanged Clubcard vouchers for Avios”

but carry on to say:

“Customers who have exchanged Clubcard vouchers since 29 April 2012 are not eligible for the bonus but will earn standard Avios.”

The latter is presumably correct.

It is unlikely that many Head for Points readers will qualify for this promotion, but if you usually convert your vouchers to avios.com then it would make sense to convert them via British Airways Executive Club this quarter.  You can combine Avios points across the two schemes by using ‘Combine My Avios’ under ‘My Account’ on the BA website.

Full details of this promotion can be found at ba.com but you must be logged in.  Look under ‘Executive Club Offers’ under the ‘Executive Club’ tab.

  • Jay says:

Hi, I joined Avios recently and I never converted my club card vouchers. So will I be qualified ?

Also, I don’t have British Airways FF membership. Do I need one to get the promotional 1,000 points ?

    • Rob says:

Yes, you need to open a free British Airways Executive Club account at ba.com and then make sure you convert to BA and not to avios.com (the Tesco website offers both options).

  • Grandmaster says:

I have £47.50 of Clubcard vouchers I’ve been waiting to redeem when the 40% bonus comes along. What’s my best course of action here?

    1. Keep on waiting
    2. Transfer the lot into Avios
    3. Transfer just £5’s worth and get the bonus 1,000 Avios?

    • Rob says:

It may be worth holding off, as sometimes a Tesco to BA transfer bonus is only offered to first time transferees

      • David says:

Although, you could argue a regular % bonus might be likely to apply to both BAEC and Avios.com transfers at the same time. Therefore, if your Avios.com account was dry (no previous Tesco conversions, or certainly none in the last year) then I’d be more likely to do the smallest trf into BAEC to pickup this extra bonus.

  • Sir Stamford says:

For those of you who qualify, this isn’t a bad offer. £5 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers would ordinarily convert to 1,200 Avios. An extra 1,000 Avios is equivalent to a 83% bonus.

  • whitenoise says:

I qualify for this offer, and have just over 5000 clubcard points that need transferring. I know the Tesco ‘quarter’ ended 5th May, when is it then we actually get the vouchers?

    • Zoe says:

If you log into your clucard account the vouchers should already be there. Choose, clubcard, manage my account, my vouchers

    • Rob says:

Next 2 weeks. The voucher codes may already show online if you want to do it immediately.

  • Mr Bridge says:

i cant find mention of this prom, not on ba or tesco.

As another issue, i have not got my email delivery of HFP today

    • Rob says:

Odd, got mine OK. Anyone else?

    • Sir Stamford says:

Go to BA.com, select Executive Club and then “Executive Club Offers”.
Select the following offer – see screen shot link (as I am unable to link directly to BA.com)

      Sir Stamford

  • Ben E says:

So…. could I open up a new clubcard account and transfer £5 before tesco see them and merge?

    • Rob says:

No. BA will award the bonus so they need to go to a BA account that has not seen a Clubcard transfer in the last year.

      • R0Ck5TaR says:

So in that case, correct me if wrong, if no Clubcard transfer in BAEC Avios since last year will qualify, even though transferred Clubcard to Avios direct?

Maybe I am analysing it wrong or the T’s & C’s are vague….

  • richie says:

OK not sure what to to!! between me and the missus we have £480 in clubcard vouchers this quarter.
we have never transferred direct to baec. however i did transfer £50 last year to avios and then in to baec from there.
so my question is should i wait for the bonus or do just do the £5 or do it all now.
our account is lined as a household account (if this makes a difference)

    • Rob says:

Not sure its worth it, in case you end up locking yourself out of a transfer bonus later that is only for first-time BA converters.

  • Stuart says:

So this may seem like a stupid question, but here goes!

I have £40 of clubcard vouchers. Can I just transfer £5 of vouchers to my BAEC account to get the bonus and then just keep the other £35 in my Tesco account in case a bonus conversion to Avios comes along?

    • Rob says:

Yes, they go back into your CC account and get reissued with your next statement.
