Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Up to 5,000 Clubcard points (12,000 Avios) with Michelin tyres

One of the latest Tesco ventures is Tesco Tyres, run by Scottish group blackcircles.com.  Ironically, though, the promotion discussed here is not available via the Tesco Tyres website, only at blackcircles.

blackcircles.com offers Tesco Clubcard points on all makes and sizes of tyre, but this promotion is only for Michelin car and 4×4 tyres of 17 inches or greater diameter.

If you spend over £1,000, you will receive 5,000 Clubcard points (12,000 Avios points or 12,500 Virgin Flying Club miles).  Spend between £750 – £1,000 and you will receive 3,750 Clubcard points.  Spend between £500 – £750 and you will receive 2,500 Clubcard points.

This is a substantial increase on the usual number of points you would have received, although the exact increase will vary depending on the combination of tyre sizes and number of tyres that make up your order.

If your car uses smaller tyres than 17 inch, it is still worth a look at the site as blackcircles is currently offering double Clubcard points on all other Michelin tyres.  Alternatively, Tesco Tyres is offering 4 x Clubcard points on Yokohama tyres.

This is a generous deal – even at my worst case valuation of 0.75p per Avios, you are getting the equivalent of 10% back in rewards.  If you ended up converting the points to Avios during a bonus period, it would be an even better deal.  The company claims it will attempt to price match if you can find a better deal elsewhere for the same tyres, so the Avios are genuinely a bonus on top.

My only issue with the deal is with the examples given on the website of how many Avios you will receive from your Clubcard points.  They are basing their conversion on the current promotional bonus of 50%.  However, if you order now you will not receive your points until the November Clubcard statement, by which time the 50% conversion bonus will have finished.

It is not clear when this offer ends – there is no date on the website or in the promotional material I was sent.  It is certainly worth a look if you are in the market for new tyres.
