I ran this post a couple of weeks ago about a status match for the Air France / KLM Flying Blue programme. They were willing to match any other airline Gold card you had to their own Gold, which effectively got you Gold across the entire Skyteam alliance.
A couple of days later, the offer was withdrawn, shortly after they had changed the rules to limit it to Scandinavian residents only.
And now, on Flyertalk, a poster received this note after posting on the Flying Blue Facebook wall:
We investigated the situation and acknowledge that due to a mistake from our side the campaign allowed members from outside Scandinavia to apply for a Flying Blue Gold status indeed. Therefore we decided to stop the campaign. All members that received approval for their status match request, however, will still receive their Flying Blue Gold card as promised.
We hope you will enjoy all the benefits!
Due to this mistake it could take 2-3 weeks before your status will be updated.
We thank you for your understanding.

You should believe it when you see it, of course, but it looks like this one might end happily.
How to earn Flying Blue miles from UK credit cards (November 2020)
Air France and KLM do not have a UK Flying Blue credit card. However, you can earn Flying Blue miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards. These are:
- American Express Preferred Rewards Gold (review here, apply here) – sign-up bonus of 20,000 Membership Rewards points converts into 20,000 Flying Blue miles. This card is FREE for your first year and also comes with two airport lounge passes.
- The Platinum Card from American Express (review here, apply here) – sign-up bonus of 30,000 Membership Rewards points converts into 30,000 Flying Blue miles
- American Express Rewards credit card (review here, apply here) – sign-up bonus of 5,000 Membership Rewards points converts into 5,000 Flying Blue miles. This card is FREE for life.
Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Flying Blue miles which is an attractive rate. The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Flying Blue mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.
