IHG Rewards Club, the Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza etc hotel group, has announced that its current promotion, ‘The Big Win’, will return in January.

You may have read some of my recent posts (eg this one) about ‘mattress run’ nights I did in cheap locations to hit the low target on my wifes account.  I spent just under £200 to earn over 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points, which should get me around £600 of free stays if used properly.

IHG Rewards Club

Registration for the January edition of ‘The Big Win’ should open on Monday.

It will run from January 1st to April 30th.

There is little more to say at the moment, until we see what sort of targets people are getting.  If IHG has set the bar a lot higher than it did for the Winter promotion, it won’t be much fun – but let’s see.

The registration page is now open and is here.

My own account needs 10 nights which is very unlikely.  My wife needs 3 nights / 3 brands / 3 Saturdays, so effectively 3 Saturday nights would do it.  Saturday is a terrible day for us to do mattress run nights, though, and her bonus is only 31,000 points anyway.

My Mum has the most useful selection.  5 nights required (any days) across 3 brands, must include 2 HIX properties (same OK or different?).  Bonus of 98,000 plus the usual points.  This looks worth a punt.  I think I will see what comes up naturally between now and Easter, and then try to pick up some cheap nights over the Easter break right at the last gasp.

My total for 2014 is a huge 168,000 points (2013 was 91,900 points)

    Stay 6 nights – 13,200 points
    3 brands – 16,800
start the day (1 flex break rate) – 3,000
    book with IHG (2 stays) – 4,800
dashboard broken link – 20,000 points
    2 city stays – 14,400 points
    2 saturdays – 12,000 points

    win big 84,000 points

    Total possible 168,200!!

Similar to this year’s in terms of targets, with the exception of the city stays. I should complete this year’s on 28th Dec with a £29 local stay. This year I will earn 91,900 points. So really pleased with my target – but it hinges on the broken link.

  • Tom says:

Does anyone know if the ‘picture tiles’ are linked to the offer or are the same pictures used irrespective of the target?

The broken ‘dashboard’ offer has a picture of a guy sat on a sofa with a laptop on his legs.
Does anyone have that image linked to another offer?

  • Simon says:

I have recently taken up the points collecting hobby and so have started to target my business stays to collect points and so in November changed my earning preferences for IHG from miles (United used to keep my miles active) to points. A stay in November and one in December netted me 42,000 points. The original Big Win was set to miles so didn’t try to achieve – I was shocked to see that on the new Big Win offering mine was still set to miles. I have fairly easy targets but am not interested in the United miles but want the points, so I contacted customer services who have said there is nothing they can do. I even asked if they could swap to BA miles but no. Really not very impressed with this!!

  • Tom says:

Does anyone know if Staybridge Suites / HIExpress (where breakfast is included) count toward the Best Flexible rate + Breakfast target/?

I assume not…. but you never know.

  • toddy0011 says:

Really disappointed with mine. I’m a Platinum Elite member, who completed the 2013 big win (68k points).

    My 2014 goals are:
    Stay 1 night: 1,000
    3 Saturdays: 8,000
    3 nights: 3,000
    3 brands: 7,000
    Book direct: 2,000
    Win Big: 10,000

    Total: 31,000 points.

I won’t even be bothering with this.

    • Will says:

that’s the default. even my mums account has this (she’s never credited a single stay to date)

both 2013 and 2014 offers for you have been pretty poor. are you a plat via staying or credit card?

      • toddy0011 says:

I’m a plat via the credit card but I still would stay approx 20 times a year.

  • What's the Point says:

OT – next set of Golden Circle points just posted – up to 800 now

  • Phil Welch says:

Quick question on the previous Big Win promotion:

I collect IB Avios and my IHG account shows that I have ‘earned’ 4,000 Avios from the Big Win promotion yet none of these promo Avios have posted to my IB account – the standard Avios from the stays have.

Can anyone else confirm that their bonus Avios/miles are yet to post? I wondered whether they would post at the end but am wondering whether there is an issue.

    Phil
