New Hampton by Hilton hotel opens in Gatwick’s North Terminal

I don’t normally write about new hotel openings, but this one has the potential to be very relevant for anyone heading off on a long-haul British Airways flight from Gatwick.

Hilton has just opened a new 192-room ‘Hampton by Hilton’ hotel, attached to the North Terminal at Gatwick.  This is the terminal used by British Airways, which means that if you arrive at Gatwick by train you will need to use the monorail to reach it.

Hampton is, theoretically, the mid-market Hilton brand.  However, because the bulk of the Hampton properties in Europe are newly built, they are actually substantially more pleasant than the average Hilton-branded hotel.

There is a lot to like about Hampton properties, as I found in Berlin a couple of years ago:

All rooms have free wi-fi

All rooms get free breakfast (in Berlin, it was a far better offering that the typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast)

They are NOT ‘pod-like’ rooms, so they appear a lot more like a ‘normal’ mid-market hotel room

For a typical night in March, the hotel was charging £109 flexible / £92 non-refundable on a Monday.  A Saturday came in at £99 flexible / £84 non-refundable.  Not a bad deal given it includes breakfast, and you will earn Hilton HHonors points and Avios for your stay.  Don’t forget to register for the new Weekend Rewards promotion before your stay!

It is a Category 4 property for Hilton HHonors.  Category 4 hotels are priced in the 20,000-30,000 points per night range, and the Hampton has chosen to charge 30,000 points per night all year round.

My general valuation of Hilton points is 0.3p, and given the prices above I am exactly right!  If you have the points, this is therefore an acceptable place to redeem.
