We have the Melia competition winner!

Thank you to everyone who entered our competition last week in association with Melia Hotels International.

We had over 1,400 entries which was a fantastic response.

The winner is …..

Gran Melia Rome

Nick from Warwick.  Well done!

Nick said in his entry that he wanted to take his wife to the Gran Melia in Rome and he tells me that this is still his top choice.   I didn’t know anything about this hotel to be honest, but having had a look at the website (and the photo above) it looks very impressive – an urban resort with large gardens just five minutes from the Vatican.

A weekend in June would set you back £430 per night with breakfast, so Nick has got an excellent result!

  10. Pierre says:

    Congrats Nick!

It IS indeed a very nice hotel, that’s where I proposed almost 9 months ago…

  11. Nick P says:

I nearly had a heart attack reading that… as a Nick who went to Warwick university and picked the Gran Melia in Rome, when I read that “Nick from Warwick” had won, I thought I was going to be off on holiday!

Sadly, reading further, it clearly can’t be me, since Raffles has already communicated with the winner, and I didn’t hear a thing 🙁

Well done other Nick from Warwick!

  12. Toby says:

    Well done Nick.

Excellent prize securing as well Raffles.

    • What I want to secure is a couple of business class flights somewhere! Still working on that ….

      • AviosNewbie says:

        That’ll be awesome!

have you thought of making the contest slightly skill-based rather than pure luck? I don’t have specific suggestions, but just to make people ‘earn’ the prize.

        • Its possible – it depends to some extent what the sponsor wants. With this one, I wanted to help Melia get the word out about their properties, which is why it was set up as it was.

To get around the Northern Ireland rules, though, it must genuinely be skill-based – I can’t ask ‘What is the capital of France?’ (this is the exact example given in the legal guidance notes.)

        • AndyGWP says:

It’s a shame there’s no easy way for you to monitor multiple entries etc too (ie. people registering ‘work / office’ postcodes / emails etc)…

Even better if you managed to keep out the “competition community” who had probably never even heard of (or are interested in) this site but would’ve entered the competition even if the prize was a jar of strawberry jam 😉

….Ultimately, all I want to do is increase my chances of winning without resorting to shenanigans 😉 haha

Anyways, all credit to you – was a belting prize! 🙂

        • AndyGWP says:

          oh, and congrats Nick! 🙂

  13. Andy Brown says:

    Congratulations Nick, feeling jealous.

  14. Marco says:

Well done Nick. There’s a number 64 bus stop not far from the hotel. If you take a taxi from the Termini railway station, make sure it’s an official taxi – you ought not to be charged more than 15-20 euros to be taken to the hotel… any more than that and you’re being ripped off. Enjoy!

  15. Andrew says:

I had never heard of Meia hotels, so good for them who now have their name out to several thousand frequent flyers…

  16. vonnie says:

    Congratz Nick!!

  17. Howard says:

    great competition. Well done Raffles!!

  18. pazza2000 says:

    Congrats, what a great prize

  19. Susan says:

Buon viaggio! Rome’s still able to amaze – and I’ve lived here five years.

  20. Nick tells me that he and Melia have already agreed a date for the trip and his room is booked, so he is good to go!
