Amex Platinum? This is how to get your Accor Platinum status extended ….

As I discussed last week, Le Club AccorHotels is changing the rules on how you earn status starting from 1st January 2017.

More pressingly, it is withdrawing Platinum status from American Express Platinum charge card holders from 15th April.

My wife and I both have Accor Platinum status via our Amex Platinum cards.  Our status was due to expire in October 2016.

This was unfortunate.   Anyone who has an expiry of date of 1st January 2017 or later has had their status extended to 31st December 2017.  We just missed out.

So, two days ago, I went back to the Amex website and re-applied for Le Club AccorHotels Platinum status for both of us on our existing Accor accounts.  This is despite the fact that we both already have it.

What happened?

Both my wife and I now have Accor expiry dates of 30th April 2017.

Since, in theory, all status moves will now take place at the end of the year and not midyear, my gut feeling is that my membership will end up being extended to 30th December 2017.

I can’t complain about that.

So …..

If:

you have Accor Platinum status via American Express, and

your membership year expires before 31st December 2016

I strongly recommend going onto the Amex Platinum website and re-applying for Accor Platinum.  It will push out your expiry to 30th April 2017 and, hopefully, a later extension to 31st December 2017.

    Morning all,

As some other folks have confirmed, status is extended until end of 2017 – shows on the Le Club site, and it was also made clear on the recent email from them explaining the changes to the earnings/achieving status.

    Cheers
    Thomas

Thicko here cannot see where on Amex Plat site to apply?

    • Alan says:

It’s not the most obvious! When on my account go to travel benefits in the Platinum banner across the top then hotel partners. Stupidly you have to untick options for primary cardholder but then still accept the T&Cs before it lets you move on to select programmes for the secondary cardholder!

    Hi all,

I thought I’d include a slight warning here based on personal experience but obviously this might differ and it’d be good to know if others have had a different experience.

I had used the exact same route on AMEX website the other week to extend the Accor benefit which I’ve used for a couple of years (otherwise I probably wouldn’t have booked the hotels and wouldn’t have focused on price instead). Anyway, I had received an email back from AMEX the other day saying that they could *not* process the request.

“We are writing to inform you that your recent application/upgrade for Le Club Accor Platinum Tier status has been unsuccessful due to the e-mail address that was used is already linked to a successful enrolment for Le Club AccorHotels. If this is the first enrolment request you have applied for, then please visit http://www.americanexpress.co.uk/platinum and re-submit your application with an alternate e-mail address or call the Travel team on the number on the reverse of your card for additional information. Please complete this process within the next 7-10 days.”

“As your membership expires after 1st May 2016, Accor will assess your membership and enrol you into the appropriate tier in accordance with Le Club AccorHotels Terms and Conditions when your current membership card expires. You may retain your Platinum tier benefits, if you have met Le Club AccorHotels qualifying criteria. The qualifying criteria can be found on the Accor Hotels website.”

“Your email address can only be used once with Le Club Accor hotels and so extending for longer than your current membership expiry date is not possible.”

Any ideas? Has anybody else been successful?

    Simon.

    • Rob says:

Odd. Worked fine for both of us – and also for another HFP reader who alerted me to the idea in the first place.

    • Andrew says:

I had that first time I applied for my wife as a supp card – seemingly the Amex site copies the email address you use for your Amex online account (even using it for supp cardholders’ hotel partner enrolment). Manually overwriting the email address worked for me (well, Mrs A).

    • CV3V says:

Yip, received the same response, but will try again…

  • AndyS says:

Daft question time. I have a secondary card holder. Do I have to enrol for both cardholders at the same time, or can I enrol primary and later enrol secondary?

  • Melvin says:

I also received the same email as mentioned by Tariq but I don’t understand if I am going to automatically be extended or not?

My status expires this month and although I earned it via Alex plat, I no longer have the card and therefore cannot do what you guys have been doing. Any advice would be welcome.

O/t Hilton status match came through today matched to diamond till March 2018 from ihg spire

  • Robert says:

Status extended till end of April 2017 – thanks for posting this Rob!

  • David says:

    From Amex website:

“Important change: From 15 April 2016, Le Club AccorHotels will no longer form part of your Platinum Cardmembership.

If you have already enrolled with Le Club AccorHotels and your membership expires on or before 30 April 2016, your membership will automatically be extended for a Le Club AccorHotels membership year in the Platinum tier.

If you have already enrolled and your membership expires on or after 1 May 2016, AccorHotels will assess your membership when you reach your membership anniversary and enrol you into the appropriate tier in accordance with the Le Club AccorHotels Terms and Conditions (please visit accorhotels.com/leclub to view these Terms).

If you are currently not enrolled with Le Club AccorHotels, you must enrol by 15 April 2016 to enjoy a complimentary year in the Platinum tier.”
