Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

SAVE THE DATE: HfP Christmas party, Tuesday 6th December

I’m delighted to announce that, after four years of pestering from readers about organising a get-together, we will be holding the first Head for Points reader Christmas party on Tuesday 6th December.

We will be taking over the Dry Martini bar at the Melia White House hotel.  The White House hotel is an attractive 1930’s building situated just a few minutes walk from Warren Street, Regents Park and Great Portland Street tube stations.

This will be a great opportunity for you to have a few pre-Christmas drinks and, more importantly, to meet fellow readers and to share your travel hints and tips.

Melia Hotels International is generously sponsoring the party and underwriting a large percentage of the drinks bill.

There will also be a prize draw on the night.  One guest will win a very attractive prize from Melia – more details coming soon – and there will be a number of runner up prizes too.  (Please get in touch if your company would like to donate a prize.)

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we are charging £15 for tickets.  However, your £15 ticket covers unlimited house wine and beer between 6pm and 8pm.  Soft drinks will also be available.  We are not making a penny from this and indeed Melia Hotels International is footing the bulk of the cost.  After 8pm, the bar will remain open for cash payments for anyone who wants to stay longer.

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday morning – we will publish full details in another article.  We honestly have no idea how popular the event will be but I hope that as many of you as possible can come along to meet Anika and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  You might even win a prize.

What a lovely idea — I’d love to put a face to the site and, as someone else said, to thank you personally for the many great tips, but really! You’re announcing a Christmas party on 23 November for 6 December????? Next year, please announce the date in early September. Am at a charity carol concert on the 6th — tickets bought September 17.

If you’re at St Pauls Knightsbridge then my wife will be there too 🙂

We tried to tie this down earlier but various things conspired against us, including holidays and World Travel Market. The upside is that we got a good deal from Melia because they know the space wouldn’t be booked by anyone else. We literally agreed the final deal yesterday.

Ha 6th December! That’s the day my Melia Rewards points expire.
I’ll be too busy in Sion, Switzerland, at that time unfortunately.

  • Mohac says:

Such a great idea Rob! If I were living in London, I would love to have a ball in that day.

  • Drolma-la says:

Bummer. I’m otherwise engaged. I don’t think I’ve ever had the chance to compare notes on this wacky hobby face-to-face. And it would be good to thank Rob in person for so expertly stirring the pot.

  • Steve says:

I’m in. Hopefully I can pick up some tips that you daren’t write about publicly!

    • Rob says:

      Undoubtedly!

That’s almost worth the train fare down from the midlands 😉
However sadly I won’t make it this year, but a great idea and hopefully will be a permanent addition to the calendar, with a bit more notice, so we can book using points etc :£
