British Airways Holidays has launched a special Club World promotion for travel over the Summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year on core routes to the US and Middle East.

There are some decent prices here but you need to book by Monday.  The prices are not as good as we saw last year but that is a moot point – they remain good value for what you get.

These are the ‘lead in’ flight and hotel offers based on Club World flights:

New York – £1,299 over Christmas including three nights in a 4* hotel

Boston – £1,499 over Christmas including three nights in a 4* hotel

Abu Dhabi – £1,199 over May – September including three nights in a 4* hotel

These prices are based on two people sharing.

Other routes included are Muscat, Dubai, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Las Vegas, Calgary, Los Angeles and Oakland.

The travel dates included are:

USA / Calgary – 1st July to 31st August, 21st to 28th November, 18th December to 2nd January

Middle East – 1st May to 30th September

A minimum three night stay is needed, with the exception of Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland and Calgary which must include a Saturday night.

As usual with BA Holiday you don’t have to pay in full when booking. Apart from a small deposit, you only need to pay the balance five weeks before departure.

Remember that you also earn a bonus 2 Avios per £1 for booking with BA Holidays on top of the Avios you will earn from the flights and from your credit card.

One minor downside is that BA Holidays packages do not earn On Business points in BA’s small business loyalty scheme for the flights.

If you fancy a short break over the summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year, these offers are worth considering.  You would also receive 280 tier points which may be a helping hand towards your requalification or promotion for next year.

    help Required not sure what ive done wrong or is there a change in amex T+Cs to punish churning??

    Got Preferred Rewards Gold Card last January ,hit spend received bonus and 2 referral bonuses.
    Cancelled in April.
    Applied again in November got Preferred Rewards Gold Card,hit spend.
    Never received bonus.
    Phoned up every couple of weeks asking where my bonus was,fobbed off with various excuses.
    Today i decided to get the bottom of the problem.
    They said various reasons on why i shouldn’t get the 20K

    stuff like:
    i didnt hit spend in time period -proved them wrong.
    Didnt leave 6 month between cancelling and reapplying-proved them wrong.
    Then lastly the cheeky buggers said id had them and spent them already.
    put it like this i was not getting the 20K no matter what.
    Got so frustrated i ended up hanging up.

    Not sure where i can go with this?
    or just a heads up for others to be wary.

      When the cancellation actually take effect though? You may have rung to cancel in April but the card is not cancelled immediately – they wait to see what outstanding charges may appear and then, if you have a balance, you obviously need to pay the final statement before the card is closed. Perhaps it wasn’t a full 6 months?

          We had a situation recently where Mrs Kip received a statement (with a charge for the annual fee) for a long-cancelled Gold card. Turns out there was a refund to the card after the cancellation which effectively ‘opened’ the account and, even though the credit balance was returned to us by cheque, the card account was still sat there open and waiting to pounce as soon as the anniversary kicked in…

          As such, I suspect we would have to wait 6 months from the second cancellation.

            Not sure a refund to a closed account should affect it as your MR account remains well and truly closed? I got a refund to SPG ages ago and still churned the next time for the bonus.

            When you cancel, Amex send you a letter with the closure date. That’s the official closure date which + 6 months and a day (just for some leeway) is when I believe I can reapply. I always wait for all transactions to post, all points to have transferred out before cancelling. Not had an issue getting a bonus (apart from MBNA during the Virgin flying club membership number transfer malarkey last Nov – now sorted though. Thanks Raffles).

        That’s interesting I thought it was cancelled when you call. I need to be careful in the future as we usually apply 6 months + 1 day from the day we called.

      I’d lodge a formal complaint if you have met all the criteria,detailing all the fobbing off. I’ve recently got the card for the first and they’ve been great with me so maybe they are trying to put off people getting it more than once?

        I’m currently working my way to the £2k spend to collect the bonus, first time I’ve had the card though. My spend tracker disappeared a few weeks ago so I hope this isn’t an indication of trouble ahead. Ive still got about 6 weeks to hit the target.

        it showed it for a month ,then it disappeared

      Recent personal experience of the email staff has been very hit and miss Recently contacted them about not getting bonus points for my SPG booking paid on my SPG card and was told it’s 1 Point per $2 but they’ll credit 1/£1 as a gesture of goodwill.

      Replied back saying thanks but no goodwill needed the AMEX deal for all UK card holders is 1/£1 spend in SPG/Marriot hotels, Can you confirm?

      Replied back asking me where I had been contacted about this deal and to send them a screenshot of it!

      Now I’m not sure what the recent hiring policy is but they don’t even seem to know their own products!

    I’m thinking we should draft a letter of complaint to Amex to the effect that if downgrading the 2 4 1 companion is, in fact, BA policy, we will have to seriously consider our statuses as Amex customers. Try and get as many people as possible to send one.

    One of the posters appears to have successfully claimed the monetary value of the avios represented by the companion voucher when put in the same position by BA.

    I think, as someone suggestion previously, the takeaway advice for those of us looking to utilise a 2-4-1 anytime soon is TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF THE CASH PRICE OF THE TICKETS TOO AT TIME OF BOOKING.

    Doesn’t solve the problem but gives you a figure to work from with BA & a legal team.
