Amex launching a Platinum Card pop-up lounge with free drinks in London

American Express does, indeed, work in mysterious ways.

The company has decided to launch a pop-up ‘Centurion Lounge’ in London for six days in the run up to Christmas.  Free alcohol is the main attraction, to be honest, as you will see below.

American Express is taking over private members’ club, The Hospital Club, near Covent Garden.   The lounge will be open from Friday 24th November to Sunday 26th November and from Friday 1st December to Sunday 3rd December, from 11am to 8pm.

You will apparently get access with a Platinum or Centurion card.  Each cardholder can bring two guests, so presumably if your partner has a supplementary Platinum card then you’d be allowed four guests between you.

The action seems a little uneventful.  We’re talking, and I’m not making this up:

snow globe making

make your own home fragrance

beauty services

brunch with Father Christmas

“holiday tips related to shopping, clothing, and decorating”

Personally, I’ll be sticking to the free drinks “from Centurion Lounge renowned mixologist Jim Meehan”.  There is apparently free food and drink all day with a special ‘cocktail and canapes’ happy hour between 5pm and 7pm.

I reckon that Head for Points has at least 1,000 London-based American Express Platinum cardholders amongst its readership.

I suggest we head down there for cocktails and canapes at 5pm on Friday 24th November.  If you don’t have a Platinum card, come along anyway if you’re nearby – I’m sure someone can guest you in …..

Off topic but interesting perk . I applied for an additional ba prem plus card for myself (to separate work/personal spend) and I was awarded 3000bonus avios which I’m guessing is for adding an additional card holder. Crazy as it’s just me!!

Thanks to genghis for the tip about getting a second card.

    • Genghis says:

No problem. We added another the other day for 3k. Easy points! 🙂

      • Dave says:

Just to clarify, you can add yourself as a supplementary card holder onto your cards?

        • Rob says:

Seems so …. the argument would be that you want to separate personal and business spend, as it would be on separate parts of the statement.

        • Alan says:

Yep you’ll get a card with “[your name] A.C.”

    • Polly says:

I will be.doing when we do our next ba referral.. tnx for tip G and B

    • johnny_c-l says:

Can you add a supp in your own name to your normal online account, or does it need to be added to a new online account?

  • Jamesay says:

I’m uk based amex platinum charge card holder and I got email earlier this week ablutbit. Stop whinging about we Londoners didn’t get invited bloody hell most of not all events amex run are in London so those of us outside the M25 rarely get any added value to the stuff they throw in London. No wonder peeps outside think Londoners are whiners!
