Emirates launches Stansted flights with its amazing new First Class suite

Emirates announced yesterday that it will begin services from London Stansted to Dubai on 8th July.  This will be the 10th daily Emirates flight from London to Dubai, with the airline already operating from Heathrow and Gatwick.

The real stunner is that Emirates is allocating one of its new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to the route.  This is a little illogical since the ‘ER’ bit in 300ER stands for ‘Extended Range’ and London to Dubai is hardly a stretch!

However, this means that the service will feature the brand new Emirates First Class private cabins.  You can check this out on the Emirates website here (warning: website features Jeremy Clarkson) and in this Head for Points article here.

It will also have the updated Business Class product, although this is a bit of a stinker given that it is a 2-3-2 layout with the unwelcome middle seat – see the picture below.

The service is aimed at the tech and pharma companies around Cambridge and Peterborough, such as Glaxo and Astra Zeneca.  Stansted is also a major cargo hub.

The flight times are not ideal if you are flying to Dubai, unless you are happy with a very short sleep before bounding into a meeting. The outbound leaves Stansted at 21.10, arriving into Dubai at 07.05.  The return is more civilised, leaving Dubai at 09.30 and arriving at Stansted at 14.10.

I might give this a go next year on the return leg of a family trip.  I am guessing that reward availability will be decent, except in the First Class Suites which are currently blocked for redemptions.

Two pairs of Business Class seats, one behind the other, are not a bad option if you have two children.  This is also worth a look if you have one child, since the 3-across middle block would suit you nicely.

How to earn Emirates Skywards miles from UK credit cards (March 2024)

Emirates Skywards does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Emirates Skywards miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Emirates Skywards miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Emirates Skywards mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Are they going to launch Luton next??

  • Jake says:

Any tips on good prices from Stansted?

  • Uzair S says:

They really must be getting desperate.

  • Adam says:

O/T but they have some nice Amex travel offers on Amex today. I got £200 off £600 spend for my platinum and £50 off £200 with my nectar. Both of which I intend to use since the deal is good through 28 February.

    • Aneesh says:

Got £50 off £200 on my gold card.
Can this be used on flights? I don’t see anything in the T&C that says it *can’t*, but I’ve just moved from the US where Amex Offers for AmexTravel are commonplace — but always restricted to prepaid hotels.

      • Rob says:

Works on anything that is prepaid – as long as Amex Travel takes the payment and does not bill it via the airline. Expedia, for eg, tends to make 2 charges to your card – one from BA for the flight and one from Expedia for the fees.

my wife & I both have the £50 off £200, she might get to use it/ them I guess

    • Lumma says:

I do like this offer when I comes round. I like to find somewhere cheap to fly to and then book it as a hotel and flight deal. Went to Istanbul in early October for 2 nights in a reasonably nice hotel for £150 using it the last time

    • Waribai says:

Ok, so I clicked on the button to save the offer in the email. It said it was saved but at that point I hadn’t actually logged in yet……So, is it really saved?

And if you are doing business, that’s the perfect time to be flying! Have a day at work in the UK, go to the airport, fly, sleep, wake up in time for the next day.

    • Rob says:

Three hours sleep at best? Not convinced.

    • Flyingbee says:

The flight times could be scheduled around the connecting banks in DXB and optimised for onwards connections to Asia and Australia/ NZ rather than local DXB traffic.

  • Alan Gilchrist says:

OMG ! Just priced up some random dates next September
    STN-DXB £7628 and LGW-DXB £4315 other destinations are similar.
This is not encouraging despite it being on the doorstep, its not worth £3k more, Emirates seems to have rather odd pricing these days though.

I would have loved a 1700-1900 departure time though, so I think I will stick to LHR for the foreseeable.

  • Londonbus says:

Stansted was designed as a proper long-haul airport – complete with transit system to piers. Its only subsequent bolt ons which have been built as low cost i.e. without jetways.

Haven’t been there for years but it does need a refurb after 25 years.

    • Stu says:

And it’s getting one. MAG have planning permission to build a new arrivals terminal, then the existing terminal will be reconfigured to give extra space for departures.

  • Lady London says:

Emirates putting their First Class Suites on planes out of Stansted ? I think they’ve understood the Essex appetite for being very well.

If oil prices remain down I can see bucket and spade holidays to Australia on these out of Stansted in a few years too.
