    Hi
I will be renting for 8 days in Florida in April.
In the original virgin/avis article, a comment by Alex said virgin gets you a free additional driver . Can anyone confirm this or have a link to where this is stated explicitly on the Avis or Virgin sites . I have looked at the links in the original article and can’t see it.
If there is no free additional driver then avis/ba (cheaper rate to begin with and free additional driver for us would be a better deal

  • Concerto says:

Just watch out in Florida, be VERY careful and take the extra time no matter who or how many are standing behind you to read the small print before you sign anything. If you’ve miraculously offered an upgrade in semi comprehensible English make sure you’re not going to end up paying for it. Take pics of the car from all angles before driving off and after returning. Try and get them to close the contract on the spot and leave extra time if returning to an airport. Best of all, completely avoid Avis, they stoop to unbelievable depths of dishonesty to gouge people. And stuff those 6,000 miles, you probably won’t get them anyway, not without a tiring, energy wasting tooth and nail fight.

Rented a car from Avis in Florida twice – never had a problem. YMMV

      • TripRep says:

+1 – Avis Preffered member here, used lots from Orlando.

Alamo decent enough too, v good for one day one way rentals via Virgin, £50 for a Camaro/Mustang from Orlando to Miami with free fuel…

But rest of the advice is good common sense, read contract & take pics, etc.

Pondering whether to split my next 10-day Florida rental into separate 5 x 2 day rentals.
Lowest rental price for 10 days is £203 vs Avis separate rental price of £310 (5 x £62) so £107 more expensive…but that would generate 27,500 miles = 0.39ppm. Not much hassle for me as will be located 15 mins from the rental facility….but what if the miles don’t post…? Hmmmm, the things we do for some extra miles!

  • Alex says:

I asked at desk when I picked up vehicle

  • Mike says:

Thanks for your replies, will probably still go with Avis, will ring virgin re the additional driver

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

It looks like Restaurant Circle has already closed down.

  • Mike says:

    Just spoken to Avis reservations.
Booking with Virgin DOES NOT come with free additional driver , officially at least.
Alex, I guess you were just lucky.
As a result will probably book through BA instead- slightly lower rate, a few Avios (nowhere near 6000) , but guaranteed free additional driver.

    • sunguy says:

Most avis locations in the US give you a free driver as long as that driver is your spouse……Id double check with the rental location you are renting from – and if you can make a free reservation, do this first then call them with the details to confirm.

  • Alex says:

It might have been as I am Avis preferred
