Comments

  1. Some of us do need £5000 plus household policies.

  2. Andrew says:

OT (no bits) I may need to buy a few thousand Avios to make a redemption in the next couple of days. Anyone know the best way of doing this? Any offers out there? Thanks in advance.

  3. Wivus says:

OT. Had to cancel a 2-4-1 last minute due to bereavement and now have a short time to find something. Is there any site that can search departure date rather than destination for BA redemption availability? As it is short notice, approx 3 weeks time, little out there of course but it has taken me an hour to find very little.. Prague is wide open but was hoping to lie down with a Pina Colada if possible. Mind you…

    • I quite like using the reward finder on the BA app as you can search by region (North America, Europe etc.) for a specific date range and it lists the destinations available…you might be able to do this on the BA website as well but I haven’t found it if so.

      • Wivus says:

Thanks Mark, tried it and it is far better than the desktop version.

  4. Stuart says:

Gave these guys another opportunity to quote & they can’t even get close to a competitive price.

An arrogant response to the question “do you think that is competitive” is hardly going to win new customers either…

    • Ralph says:

Yes, I tried Alan Boswell last August when they had an Avios offer and wanted to see if I could get my household premium down from around £2,500 as it creeps up every year without claims. AB seem to use quite a narrow range of insurers – Sterling in particular (who underwrite the John Lewis home insurance) who had in fact been my previous insurer + Aviva & Covea who as far as I can see aren’t really in the market for higher value policies so quote silly prices. As it takes a lot of time and form filling with AB, it wasn’t a very worthwhile enquiry.

I am always keen on Avios earning opportunities, but unfortunately this one doesn’t really work.

  5. Geoff says:

Can AB credit Avios (either bonuses for buying a policy or the competition prize) direct to BAEC now that the avios.com accounts are being closed? I seem to remember that previously they could only credit to avios.com accounts, but I may be misremembering….?

  6. OT: anyone knows what’s happening In Amsterdam airport today? Most evening flights delayed including ours…

We were meant to depart at 19:40, delayed until 22:30 (annoyingly it is just short of 3 hours). This is a flight to Leeds. No chance of EU compensation ????

    • the real harry1 says:

You can get free food & drinks (not alcohol) after 2 hrs delay, European short haul. Duty of care. They won’t offer it so you’ll have to buy some snacks & claim it later. Keep receipts.

    • Thunderstorms, high delays in western Europe (LON, AMS, FRA, DUS)

      • the real harry1 says:

& duty of care isn’t impacted by weather or extraordinary circs – they have to look after you.

A tenner or so each would be refunded if it’s just a couple of hours delay and you get the munchies, presumably receipt should state time after 2 hrs is up.

        • Thanks guys- their duty of care was a €5 voucher for use at very select restaurants.
The captain said delay was weather related on the flight from LBA, so seems problem was in UK not AMS.

    • the real harry1 says:

@ Boi – the departure time is irrelevant – the 3 hrs limit means time you arrive (with first door open) at destination – vs scheduled arrival time, there might be a bit of congestion so go into hold pattern

  7. Just wanted to add a positive comment about Alan Boswell. I contacted them via their Avios email address last year to enquire about renewing my home insurance, the response was prompt and professional and they were more than happy to help despite me only having a low value contents only policy. They matched my renewal premium with better cover so I went for it and, IIRC, the Avios posted within a couple of days. My only complaint was they didn’t take Amex!

    • Jeremy I says:

Yes i also found them to be both competitive prices and great customer service last year when i bought a small contents insurance policy from them.

  8. I found them to be good and got the Avios though no problem last year. Shame they wouldn’t let me have any on a renewal bus year.

  9. Down the Back says:

Mrs DtB contacted AB last week for a quote and found the service very good and the price was also competitive, unfortunately we didn’t go ahead as the excess was way more than we currently have but having said that the cover was also better ie our current cover for the rings is only when they are being worn, AB cover was anytime.
