ENDS TONIGHT: Buy up to 84,000 cheap Avios, from 0.7p, via Groupon – but this time via Ireland

It’s back! You can buy cheap Avios points – from 0.71p – simply by heading over to Groupon.

The link for the deal is here.

This time there is a fundamental change to the offer, and it is for the better.  It is being run by Aer Lingus Aer Club, not Iberia, and via Groupon Ireland, not Groupon Spain.  This means that, if you have a problem receiving your voucher code, your chance of getting it resolved as a non-Spanish speaker is now much improved.  I am also in touch with the people at Avios who are looking after this offer, so if there are any problems with missing codes we should be able to resolve them.

Note that, whilst you need to buy now, you won’t receive your Avios until 28th June.  There have apparently been fraud issues with the Iberia version of this offer and a delay is being put in place in case of problems with payment cards.

Groupon Avios deal

This is a now an Aer Club deal.  This means that you need an Aer Club Avios account (easily fixed by going to aerlingus.com if you don’t have one).

In the past, an avios.com would double-up as an Aer Club account.  This is no longer an option as all avios.com accounts are being closed.  Even if you have an avios.com account, you need to open an Aer Club account.   During the sign-up process, when you are asked if you have an Avios account already, say ‘No’.

(If the Aer Club website is refuses to accept your application form, try removing the space from your post code and, when formatting your mobile number, put the first two numbers in the first box and the rest in the 2nd box.  Seems to help!)

When your Avios have arrived in your Aer Club account, you can move them across to your British Airways Executive Club account by using the ‘Combine Your Avios’ feature on avios.com or ba.com.

What do the Avios cost?

There are five price levels- the 2,000 Avios deal is the cheapest.

If you do not use an existing groupon.ie account and open a new one, you can use code HELLO15 to save a further 15% (capped at €20).

2,000 Avios = €19 (£16.71) – 15% with HELLO15 =  0.71p    SOLD OUT!

4,000 Avios = €59 (£51.91) – 15% with HELLO15 = 1.10p   SOLD OUT!

8,000 Avios = €99 (£87.10) – 15% with HELLO15 = 0.93p

15,000 Avios = €189 (£166.28) – €20 with HELLO15 = 0.99p

20,000 Avios = €249 (£219.12) – €20 with HELLO15 = 1.00p

35,000 Avios = €439 (£386.32) – €20 with HELLO15 = 1.05p

You can buy a maximum of ONE of each remaining package, which means 84,000 78,000 Avios in total.  If you buy multiple packages, remember that the HELLO15 discount is capped at €20 per order and not per package.

Even if you make a separate Groupon purchase for more codes to take you beyond 84,000 78,000 Avios, you will not be allowed to apply them to your Aer Club account – although obviously you could buy for family members and add the codes to their Aer Club account.

If you do not use a 0% payment card, remember to factor in the 3% FX fee to the prices shown above.

What happens next?

You will be emailed a voucher code.  This must be redeemed at aviosvouchers.com.

The voucher will only be accepted for redemption into an Aer Club account, not an Iberia or British Airways account.

You can only redeem your voucher between 28th June and 28th July.  Do NOT buy if you need the Avios immediately.

The big question ….. is it worth it?

Because this is an Irish rather than a Spanish deal, I am pretty confident that you will receive your Avios without too much of a fight.  To be fair, even the recent Groupon Spain / Iberia versions of this deal have been trouble-free for most people.

Picking up 2,000 Avios for 0.71p is a no-brainer.

In general, I am not keen on paying more than 0.75p per point.  I tend to average 1.15p when I redeem and I want a big margin between my ‘purchase’ and ‘sale’ costs.  That said, if you know you will get substantially above 1p per Avios when you redeem then it would be worth jumping in at the higher levels.

  1. O/T Vente Privee has launched buy Avios. Good for anyone who missed on 2k package from Groupon IE.

    • Simon says:

I take it the french version of the site? I’m struggling to get on it, It keeps redirecting to the UK version.
Any avios below 0.8p (my personal buying cut off loosely based on the percy pig exchange rate!)? If so I’ll keep trying.

      • Yes, I saw it on the app (french version). 2k package (21 euros) sold out now though. You can buy up to 100k avios with this. 20k package is 20 euros cheaper and 35k package is 40 euros cheaper than Groupon one. If you are a new customer you can get 10 euros off. Various codes circling around.

        • Simon says:

          Thanks
          So…
          2,000 Avios for €21 (0.92p)
          4,000 Avios for €59 (1.30p)
          9,000 Avios for €109 (1.07p)
          20,000 Avios for €229 (1.01p)
          35,000 Avios for €399 (1.00p)

    • Premgenius says:

A note for anyone considering this deal the voucher won’t be available for immediate use I believe it takes 7 days before you’ll get the voucher

    • Bill B says:

I just redeemed my Vente Privee voucher and am waiting for the Avios to show up in my BA account

      • Bill b says:

And three days later, they’re in my BA account. Thanks to OP meta for the pointer to Vente-Privee.

  2. Ralph says:

Thank you Meta! Just bought a 2k package as I did miss the Irish one. There aren’t many of those left on Vente Privée.

  3. O/T I purchased the Spanish version last week to kick start an Iberia account. The password to my account is now not working and the reset will not send a link to my email. If I try to register a new account it says email already in use. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to contact them or resolve would be appreciated.

  4. i was having trouble registering for my account, kept saying telephone number needs be registered in the UK, and address wasnt going through, i put my postcode all in capitals no spaces and used my work landline number putting 0207 in the first box and the rest in the next and it has gone through.

  5. Has anyone here used a US credit card for this Aer Lingus offer?

I’ve done the IB offers before and have to use PayPal as a US resident to get the payment to work. Also, I assume these points can transfer to BA/IB programs. Is that right? Thanks.

    • Yes, you can transfer them to BA / IB using the avios.com platform. Don’t see why a US card would be a problem given that UK cards are not a problem on the Irish site.

  6. won’t let me buy another package after the first one – is HELLO15 only valid for one order?

    • Yes. You need to open a new Groupon account.

      • thanks Rob, used separate emails but got cancelled it appears. no customer service telephone numbers so that’s time I wont get back!

        • tried several times with new emails, existing emails and even friends. worked for my wide and I but rejected for all others.
‘We’re sorry, but we were unable to process your order for 35,000 Avios points.’

          Very annoying

  7. Kris Elder says:

If I purchase these now will I have them in time to make a booking around 13th July with BA?

  8. Oliver says:

I’ve an exisiting Aerclub account (they are totally useless) + and exisitng Avios.com account already linked to BA. (which ofcourse is closing). All my accounts are setup using the same email.
BA required matching emails as criteria for transfers. I conclude I need to setup a new Avios Account and link it to Aerclub. Expect I’ll get the error message email already in use. Any suggestions how I rseolve that issue?

  9. Dominik says:

Looks like all Avios packages via the Groupon offer are now sold out.

  10. Not sure if you or others can help. Bought various points in names of wife and I. Managed to open AER account in my name and I don’t have an Avios account.
My Wife has an Air Lingus account but we can’t get an AER account opened to run alongside it. (Used all tips for opening account as per your note.) She does have an Avios account. Is this an inhibiter to opening an AER account. She can still log into Avios.
    Has anyone else experienced problems.

    • Try again with Aer Club and when it says, for your wife, “Do you have an Avios account?” say Yes. This SHOULD merge her existing Avios account with Aer Club and ensure it isn’t closed.
