I am surprised that LOT is going to the trouble of setting up this new route, when it will soon be impossible to fly between UK and EU.

    • Anna says:

Why is it going to be impossible? We fly to the US, Far East etc. Are the Spanish, French and Greeks really going to stand by and watch their tourism industries go down the pan?

      • Callum says:

It won’t be impossible, they’re being flippant.

        • RussellH says:

That is not what Michael O’Leary says!

And like him or loathe him, he does know and understand the airline business better than most.

  • David Asson says:

OT – Has anyone else completed the market research for Curve?

It looks like they have addressed the AMEX issue and are looking to include it as a premium feature on two new Curve cards.

    1. New Curve Black – £7.90 per month / ATM Uplift to £400 per month and £750 worth of AMEX Transactions (per month)

    2. Curve Metal – £13.90 per month / ATM Uplift to £600 per month / Unlimited AMEX Transactions and some (vague) hotel benefits.

I’m not sure if these are ready to be released, or whether it’s early days and they are still refining the product. Rob – Have you heard anything?

    • Alex W says:

Good intel! Sounds like it could be worth it for those struggling to hit Amex spend or signup bonuses.

Unless they offer a discount to existing Curve black holders, don’t think I’ll jump in now. We’ve reduced our Amex spending in favour of 2 x IHG Black MasterCards.

    • Rob says:

I know exactly what is going on but can’t tell you 🙂

      • Matt says:

Can you let on when anything is likely to happen? Weeks, months, years, when pigs fly?

    • Alan says:

Interesting, didn’t get the survey. Quite pricey, not sure I’d get enough benefit but will see what the final offering is.

    • KevMc says:

I would definitely be a subscriber to the Metal version if it also got rid of the £50k/year limit

      • Rob says:

Six figure sums are being discussed.

        • Jon says:

An increase on the 50k limit together with Amex availability would certainly have some financial value to me; the maths would take some working out based on limit and increased reward opportunities vs monthly cost. I can almost hear the gears in Rob’s brain starting to spin…

    • Ben says:

Combined with an increase in the £40k pa limit and Master card debit, Curve Metal could be very beneficial. Subject to the above I’d sign up immediately.

    • Mark2 says:

Curve metal, on the conditions stated here – converts Amex into (almost) a debit card and high overall limit – sounds worth £13.90 (a strange amount?) per month.

      • Alan says:

They’ve confirmed all very speculative and nothing certain as of yet.

  • Matt says:

A really daft question, but how do I see all my bookings on Iberia? Is there a similar view to in BAEC where I can see all the bookings on one page?

  • ADS says:

Another Iberia question – can you normally book AA reward flights on the IB website ?

maybe Rob could do an article in the next few days about redeeming with IB ?!

    • idrive says:

OT I am having problems searching for any segment (even LHR-MAD) this morning on Iberia/Pay Avios. Anyone else?

  • Stuart says:

OT – platinum upgrade from Gold Credit card: I have a standard email that I send to people when they ask about what we do with Amex cards. It has my referral link, instructions on applying for gold, then upgrade to platinum. One of my colleagues got a copy from someone that I sent it to previously, & followed the process without talking to me about it. He’s now proudly flashing his platinum card around, after “upgrading for free”. Given the timing of the referral bonus coming in, he must have had the gold credit card, so it seems that upgrades ARE possible. That or he got lucky.

    • Mark2 says:

I would expect him to get the Platinum card.
Surely the question is whether he gets 20,000 MR after spending £1,000?

      • Alex W says:

Good point but even without the 20k bonus it’s a good way to circumvent the fee…

  • palcsaky says:

I’ve got £100 back on £800 spend with Thai Airways on my Gold charge.

  • shd says:

Is the sign-up page for Aerclub broken?

Been trying to sign up, brand new email address, keep getting red exclamation mark and “Unfortunately we are unable to complete your registration”.

Tried reformatting phone number to 3 digit dialling code and 7 digit number, tried taking space out of UK postcode.

    Any other suggestions?

  • Alan says:

Lots of offers on Plat, hardly any on SPG. However I’d prefer fewer offers that were actually useful rather than a high volume of rubbish ones!

    • Pangolin says:

It seems that offers on SPG are being steadily removed. Right now, I’ve only got one (!) but at the start of the year I had more offers on my SPG card than on my Amex Plat.

I also get mostly rubbish, relating to irrelevant categories (Kids/Family, Women’s Clothing) – so much for Big Data!

Meanwhile, I sit and wait for another Amex Travel or Hilton deal.
