Five UK Marriott hotels, mainly country clubs, are to leave the chain

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Five UK Marriott hotels are leaving the chain in two weeks, despite being included on the new points pricing list from August.

These are:

  • Sunderland Marriott
  • Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Park
  • Hollins Hall Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Shipley
  • Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Southampton
  • Sprowston Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Norwich

The last day that these hotels will operate under the Marriott brand is 18th July.

These hotels were recently for sale – I don’t know if a deal was concluded.  The removal of the Marriott branding is being described as a positive to give the buyer a clean sheet.

    I got mine

    • Eli Goldberg says:

Whoever didn’t listen to Rob saying over and over to open an Iberia account, this was another reason why. Listen to what he tells you!

  • xcalx says:

Anyone having problems combining Avios INTO IB Avios have tried all options on both our long standing accounts which have never had a problem before.

    • PB says:

Yes… It says “Combine My Avios is Currently Unavailable” for me. Not sure if its a usual message…Haven’t had issues in the past.

      • xcalx says:

I think that’s the wording that comes up for any failed attempt.
I can move Avios between BA and A.com as normal so combine my Avios is working

        • the real harry1 says:

yep CMA to/ from IB has been (deliberately) broken since at least yesterday

are they going to keep it broken until 1st December?

nobody has successfully transferred promo points out of IB so far

        • the real harry1 says:

though nobody seems to have tried transferring out on the phone…

        • xcalx says:

Just off the phone to BA. They told me IB have blocked transfers both ways on accounts.
We are regular BA to IB combiners will be gutted if this continues. We need to book flights that are now available and am 6500 short of making the booking. I can understand blocking transfers out of IB but not INTO IB.

        • the real harry1 says:

just transfer into IB from Amex MR points etc

          or buy some

        • Cat says:

I’m having the same problem transferring into Iberia.

The flight I had my eyes on comes up as 55,250 off peak, so I did a quick reverse % calculation (55250 / 0.85) and assumed I’d need 65,000 Avios in the summer hols. I booked 8 flights accordingly and now have 72,000 Avios sitting in my Iberia account. When I now look at the peak dates (as the summer holidays flights are just now being released) the same flights come up as 77,500.

          That’s an off-peak discount of 28.7%.

          a) This seems very odd – is this some sort of unannounced devaluation?

          b) Has anyone got any bright ideas on how I can get my hands on 5,500 Avios without the ability to transfer in and without actually paying through the nose for them?

          Thanks all!

        • the real harry1 says:

I’ll refer you for SPG Amex if you like! 11,000 MR points on £1000 spend, just pay off your council tax @ Paypoint and the points are yours 🙂

        • callum says:

Cat – you’d have to say what the actual flights were but it could be the Iberia Express promo?

        • paul says:

Is there not an avios&money option that brings down the avios required? Or book one way (or some of the passengers) from IB+ and the rest from BAEC, and use the remaining IB avois another time.

        • Cat says:

It was a single from San Jose, Costa Rica to London. It jumps from 55,250 to 77,500 at the start of the summer peak period.

Harry, doesn’t Rob mind other people using his website to refer cards? If he doesn’t, that would be great!

        • the real harry1 says:

@ Cat – yes it would indeed be great! 🙂

but I think Raffles would go a bit ape, can’t blame him lol

Just email him and ask for a referral link rob [at] headforpoints.co.uk

        • pauldb says:

If this is IB via MAD, could you cope with economy MAD-LON? That would save enough avios and you’d still get lounge access in MAD.

        • Cat says:

Would I definitely still get lounge access? I was going to try to get the 3166 and try my chances at getting the A350, as well as trying out the lounge for the 4S terminal!

        • pauldb says:

I’ve never played this out with IB/MAD but lounge access between l/h J and s/h y is a oneworld policy so you should get it: https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access. But yes I did wonder if you were thinking about the A350 option.

    • JK says:

I tried just now and it worked. I moved 1 from Avios to IB, and then moved it back again. It won’t let me take any more out of IB, so the ‘special’ 90K must be ringfenced.

      • the real harry1 says:

        good intel

        • Cat says:

Is Combine my Avios working (for non-ring fenced Avios) then?

        • Cat says:

Yay, just got home to my laptop! All sorted now – I have my ducks lined up in a row!

  • Calvin says:

I’m struggling to even log into my account. Comes back with a login error.

    • Steve says:

+1 for my wife, new account opened on the Saturday of the promotion.

My 6 month old account is fine to access but no points posted yet

      • the real harry1 says:

reset password on the mobile app

        • Steve says:

          Thanks Harry that worked.

My points have posted as a passanger to my wife’s 10 bookings. Her points from these same bookings are still not showing!

  • John says:

fwiw when I wanted to use my years old but also years unused IB account to convert hotel points into Avios (Accor->IB, IB-BA), the inward transfer was fine, but I got an error message when trying to use Combine my Avios

it took 90 days before it allowed the transfer out to BA, which I believe matches how a new IB account works

if anyone is unable to transfer Avios, maybe it’s due to the IB account having gone dormant and needing 90 days to open up again

    • Michael says:

That’s what I’m worried about. I’ve had my account for years but never actually used it. No points posted yet but I did do it on Sunday.

  • Dakman says:

Got mine too. I booked on Sun using my UK registered account, while on travels at a non participating country, no vpn used! ????

  • Graham Walsh says:

6 out of my 10 bonus points have landed. Maybe because there was an issue with the other 4 on ticketing.

  • Nick says:

Nothing in my wife’s yet but I only went for 18k avios just in case….she is also due 18k…both booked on the Sunday (last day). Hopefully will arrive soon enough….

  • Nick says:

Just checked mine and the 18k have landed!
