On Saturday I wrote about a new promotion that Hilton Honors had launched in conjunction with Lufthansa’s Miles & More programme.

Hilton Honors is offering a very generous 2,500 Lufthansa Miles & More miles on every stay between 1st August and 31st October.

You need to register here.

The promotion is not very well described on the Hilton website and I couldn’t be 100% confident how it would work.   However, a HfP reader posted a screenshot yesterday of a Hilton stay where he had just checked out after registering for this deal:

As you can see this promotion works perfectly well alongside the current Hilton Honors ‘double points’ promotion.

This means, for every Hilton stay you do between now and 31st October, you will receive:

your standard base points

any promotional points (which means double base points until 9th September)

2500 Miles & More miles – possibly worth £25!

On the face of it this is a very generous deal.  I would value a Miles & More mile at 1p – with the caveat that they are only really worth having if you earn enough for long-haul premium class redemptions – which would mean you’re getting back £25 of miles per stay.

Note that reward stays are excluded from this offer.

Register even if you don’t collect Miles & More miles

I know that you may be reading this and thinking ‘there’s no point, I don’t collect Miles & More miles’.  I can see where you’re coming from, but I think you’re wrong.  Here’s why:

You get these miles ON TOP of everything else you are due.  It is a genuine extra bonus, so why not take it even if you have no immediate plans for them?

The miles won’t expire for three years.  That is a long time for another good offer to come along – and remember that Lufthansa is hoping to relaunch its UK credit card next year – to get you up to a decent level for a good business class redemption.

In the worse case scenario, Miles & More miles can be transferred into Heathrow shopping vouchers via Heathrow Rewards.  Details are here (log-in required).  7,500 Miles & More miles gets you £20 of Heathrow shopping vouchers and you get an additional £5 for every 1,875 miles on top.

Hilton Miles and More promotion

Perhaps now is a good time to do the Hilton Diamond status match challenge?

If you have top tier status in another hotel programme, Hilton Honors will match you to top-tier Diamond status for 90 days.  Register here.  Diamond benefits include guaranteed lounge access where available, free breakfast and usually a decent upgrade.

More importantly, if you can complete eight stays within 90 days – cash or reward stays – you will retain Diamond status until March 2020.

With the added benefit of receiving 2500 Miles & More miles per stay, the economics of doing eight cheap one-night ‘mattress run’ stays over 90 days (less any stays you can move towards Hilton anyway) look pretty attractive.

There is a similar offer to get Gold status (free breakfast) if you can do four stays within 90 days.

It stacks with the current American Express offer

This offer will definitely stack with the current American Express offer that many have received via their online statements.  My wife has ‘5000 Membership Rewards points for £150 of spending in Europe’.  There is also a US version.

You must register for the Lufthansa offer

When you register (click here), you are not asked for your Miles & More account number.  Hilton will work from your ‘Preferred Travel Partners’ list in your Hilton Honors profile.  Make sure that your Miles & More account is on that list and, importantly, set to ‘Preferred’.  I am guessing that the offer won’t work unless you do this.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

Do you know that holders of The Platinum Card from American Express receive FREE Hilton Honors Gold status for as long as they hold the card?  It also comes with Marriott Bonvoy Gold, Radisson Rewards Premium and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here and you can apply here.

Did you know that the Virgin Atlantic credit cards are a great way of earning Hilton Honors points? Two Virgin Points can be converted into three Hilton Honors points. The Virgin Atlantic cards are the only Visa or Mastercard products in the UK which can indirectly earn Hilton Honors points and they come with generous sign-up bonuses. You can apply here.

You can also earn Hilton Honors points indirectly with:

  • Justin says:

Has anyone received M&M miles for a redemption booking?

    • Neil Holland says:

Good question… I’ll find out this week. Sometimes any spend attached to a redemption stay does the trick!

  • Nick says:

PS. You should also receive 500 M&M Miles if you subscribe to the newsletter. I just re-subscribed and the 500 points have posted immediately.

    • Nick says:

      500 Miles, not points 🙂

      • Lynn says:

Plus 500 if you download the app

      • Nick says:

Thanks Lynn. Thinking about it, my 500 miles may well have been due to re-downloading the app., which I ALSO did. So best do both to get the miles. 🙂

      • BJ says:

If you have just joined up the 500 miles are probably for that, not app or newsletter.

    • RussellH says:

Over the years I have subscribed and desubscribed to the LH Spamletter several times. Only got the 500 points the first time.

  • Boi says:

    Subscribed. Thanks
I wish it was miles/night as I have 11 nights in Hilton but only 2 stays.

  • james says:

Got 9 stays in Nov, shame it ends before that 🙁

Guess it doesn’t count on reward point stays ?

    • RussellH says:

I would assume that is applies to point + cash bookings at least. I have done three of these this year and always got base points, silver elite points and full promotional points, whatever they were at the time. Earlier this year the promotional points were 2500 per stay, which for a £25 + 8000 point stay was pretty good.

  • AT says:

If it does work on reward nights, then for 19 stays I have before by October 31st from a spend of approx £700 worth of points I’ll be getting 47500 miles alongside 35400 Hilton points (and 19 free breakfasts, swims, and gyms).

Hilton’s generous promotions are one of the reasons I really like Hilton. Add guaranteed lounge access for the easily attainable Diamond and it makes Spire Elite look pathetic.

However…. before they ended the points & miles thing earlier this year, the miles didn’t post on reward stays, for me.

    • JPV says:

Are you meant to earn Hilton base points on reward stays? I haven’t in the past…

      • Rob says:

        On incidental spend, yes.

        • JPV says:

Does that mean you earn base points for the entire stay if you have incidental spend? Or that you only get base points for the spend itself?

          Thanks Rob

          • Rob says:

Only on the incidental spend. You can’t get 10+ points per $1 base points on the room because your room bill is £0!

Although, when Hilton does promos with a fixed bonus, eg ‘2000 bonus point per night’, you DO get the bonus on reward nights on your £0 base spend.

        • Genghis says:

Equally I have had base points on reward stays in the past. I assume a processing error…

        • RussellH says:

Not at Hampton (unless they have recently changed the rules). Never had anything for incidental purchases at Hampton.

        • Doug M says:

Assume an error. But at an Embassy Suites last year was offered 500 (?) points to skip housekeeping, easy for me, I’m OCD enough that it’s an internal battle not to make the bed myself anyway, so this was a reward for allowing my need anyway. Despite being a hotel.com booking full points posted, as if I’d booked direct. Assumed that somehow the 500/night in some way triggered the error.

        • BJ says:

I can confirm RussellH comment re: Hampton. My last Hampton stay 100% redemption on 16 May attracted no points for my bar bill or any bonus points at all. I am confused by this though; should I have received myway bonus points? What about points and cash at Hampton; should we receive points on the cash element?

        • John says:

@BJ: yes, you should get points on the money portion of a Points & Money stay.

MyWay options for Hampton are 250 bonus points or a snack/drink (sometimes you get both if the hotel is generous)

  • Claire says:

Ok you talked me in to it, I have signed up for a Miles & More account & registered for the Hilton promotion .. how do I add the miles and more account number to my Hilton account? (sorry if that’s a stupid Q I just can’t find how to do it)

    Thanks

  • Lee says:

Not sure how you enter the raffle – can’t see any option on the page.

    • BJ says:

Looks like they enter you simply by subscribing to the email or downloading the app.

  • Roger1* says:

Hmm, bonus trip to Vienna coming up with ‘Vueling Austria’ – the €0.01 offer – we need a hotel.

    I was thinking::
    – 5 award nights at the Hilton, 5th night free, free breakfast as HH Gold?
    – 5 Nights at the IC: 1 Ambassador ‘free’ night with 1 revenue flight, 1 credit card free night and 2 award nights?

Now the HH Platinum Challenge to consider. Do points stays count? 5x 1 night at separate Hilton group hotels would be 5 nights but would ‘lose’ 1 free night.

Oh, the perils of a points/miles collector. 😀
