Air India drops flights from Heathrow to New York – but adds Bangalore

One of the more obscure ways of getting from London to New York is on Air India.

The airline flies the route three times per week as a continuation of a flight from Ahmedabad to Heathrow, using ‘fifth freedom’ traffic rights.  You could redeem miles for this via any Star Alliance programme.

Air India Boeing 787

Air India’s Heathrow to New York service will end on 16th November.  The airline will use the landing slots to launch a new service to Bangalore, starting on 17th November.  The existing Delhi and Mumbai services from Heathrow will continue as usual.

Another little aviation oddity bites the dust.

They’ve changed their name: It’s now Bengaluru.

    • BJ says:

BUT, the business model whatever it is has clearly benefited HFP readers to date and hopefully HFP itself so why should we care all that much? Even in light of major changes Rob still seems to be more upbeat than neutral on the card so hopefully there is still more to come.

  • Russ says:

As bits just received this from Volotea wanting to know if I’m interested in having my name painted on an aircraft:

‘Send us your proposal and, if it is selected, we’ll paint it on one of our new aircraft! You could also win €300 credit to spend on flights and a Volotea A319 model personalised with your aircraft name.’

    Think it’s open to everyone.

      *wife haha

      • Shoestring says:

Is she on the ‘not size 8’ side? 🙂

Shame about the timing, I switched away from auto convert to Virgin a few days ago, got nothing of course

It seems VS have a economy miles sale to Miami running, 9300 miles.
Time to break out the PE upgrade vouchers

    Hi OT But related .

i am flying to Dubai next month, just looked at the booking to see my BA flight says -operated by Air Belgium. I didn’t even think air Belgium was in one World. Also its definitely a direct LHR>Dubai in club. Its an A340, are Ba doing what virgin did with the air Berlin planes due to same 787 problems…..?

    • Rob says:

      Yes.

These are ex-Finnair planes so, sadly, the seating is actually better than BA Club World! Decent feedback from those who have done it. Alternatively, ring BA and ask to be moved to any other Dubai or Abu Dhabi service – this is a good chance to get better flight times than what you may have booked.

      • barry cutters says:

flight times are perfect as they are. I’m not too bothered about the seat. Will make a change from club world/AA. It is generally all i fly as we have a generally BA/AA only policy. So interesting to try something else.

      • thehornets says:

Spotted the Air Belgium plane hidden amongst all the BA BA-liviried planes whilst taxiing out of Heathrow on Sunday. Looked very out of place!

  • Sam Butler says:

Apologies if this has something that has been dealt with on here already but I couldn’t find anything. Has anyone else struggled to log in at all to SPG accounts?

I was approved for the SPG amex on 27th August, and despite getting emails from SPG with a member number, have never been able to log in. Even trying ‘forgot my password’ is coming back with ‘Please ensure the information you provided matches your Member account information’.

Any ideas, or do I need to call them?

    • E says:

Do you have a Marriott account as well which uses the same email address? If so, clear your cookies and use a different browser to access each account. There were a lot of problems with that when they first merged. Wouldn’t surprise me if they haven’t sorted that either!

      • Sam Butler says:

Tried this, no luck on different browsers or even on the app. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

I’ve sent a strongly worded email in the forlorn hope that they can fix it and see fit to compensate me for not being able to access my points for months.

        • paulm says:

Based on recent experience I would call them, they don’t answer emails!

  • paulm says:

Just seen a tweet from Curve saying that amex support is coming ‘soon’

    • Genghis says:

      Announced supposedly today at PayExpo

    • Daniel Evans says:

Yes I’ve just been advertised this on Facebook…

    • BJ says:

Awesome, I can put £1400 of factoring fees through amex every month now so that is my 241 sorted as long as it lasts 🙂

  • Alan says:

Marriott CS truly woeful. Queries about travel packages or points redirected to SPG, Twitter team promise follow-up and then do nothing. Shame they haven’t spent this promotion money on providing proper customer service…

    • BJ says:

SPG cannot yet attach TP AFAIK but happy to be corrected as it’s weeks since I booked. I wanted W Leicester Square but no joy. Subsequently got them to attach an old Cat 7 to County Hall despite the certificate now only being supposedly worth category 5. Are these certificates getting converted to new certificates at time of bookin? I don’t know whether to shut up, show up and hope for the best or cancel the reservation and use on a cat 5 hotel I don’t need to worry about.
