Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

How your £50 Amazon Business voucher actually works ….

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Last week we covered a very generous offer for anyone with their own SME.  Amazon offered HfP readers a 50% discount on their next order (maximum discount £50) when they created a free Amazon Business account.  See here if you missed it.

There were some delays getting the 50% discount codes out, but most who signed up on the first day should have had their codes yesterday.  If you didn’t, please wait another couple of days – I will do a tidy up next week.  Look in your spam folder though as a large percentage seem to have ended up there.

If you didn’t sign up last week, you can register your company by following the instructions in this article.  You ONLY qualify for the code if you use our sign-up link.

PS.  Using ‘pay by invoice’ means you cannot use the 50% discount code, as per the terms and conditions.  You need to add a credit card and then wait 48 hours.  The code should then work against any qualifying order which is charged to the card.

PPS.  One reader said yesterday that to get the code to work he had to do the following:

“1) Go to “Business Settings”
2) Click “Shared Settings”
3) Change from “Individual…” to “Do not allow…” and update
4) Go back to “Shared Settings” and change it back to the first option”

OT, anyone else playing Marriott 29 ways ? Daily prizes available, just won a big 50 points!

    • BJ says:

Yes, let’s see if they can credit the points to our accounts without any drama.

    • Gill says:

Thanks. Hadn’t heard it had finally started.

      • Rob says:

Started working last night, will cover tomorrow.

        • Sussex Bantam says:

I won 50 points as well ! Woo hoo

On the positive side I didn’t know that Marriott had “curated TED talks” in its rooms and one of the clues (at least for me) was the Heidelberg Marriott which is where I am staying right now !

    • N says:

      500 points for me!

      Woooooo!

      Ritz-Carlton, here I come!!!!!

      • Stuart_f says:

        1000 points!
This is almost as good as the NFL giveaway last year 😛

      • BJ says:

Seems the points are not guaranteed, even if you get the answers correct. Got 50 points yesterday, none today, only an entry into the grand draw. Looks like YHA/YMCA for me 🙂

    • AndyF says:

Thank you for mentioning this I just won 50 points whoop! Hopefully, it will reset my points expirations.

      • Lee says:

Doesn’t matter if your answer was correct or not. Ans I think you only have one chance to win instant win. If you’ve won 50 points, then that’s it for next 28 days I guess.

        • Rob says:

No, you can get 50 points per day (or at least a 50/50 chance).

        • EwanG says:

          I agree with Rob.
Note: Limit one (1) Game Play/entry per person/email address per day

        • Lee says:

From more than 100 data points I read no one has won second time. I really hope I was wrong as even 50 points per day is not too bad.

          • Rob says:

They are never going to give away 2 million prizes if you can only enter once.

        • Boo says:

“Limit one (1) Instant Win Prize per person” though, seemingly not qualified with “per day”

  • AndyW says:

OT – my points from my last month spend on SPG Amex have actually posted into my combined Marriott account. Still missing the two months prior though.

    • momomo says:

You are the first I have heard of in getting SPG Amex points transferred – congrats(!). I guess we couldn’t expect them to get everything right… Did last month’s points transfer around the statement production date as they used to? What have they said about the missing two months?

I need my missing 3 months’ transfers to work later this month for a booking I have at the end of Nov,

      • AndyW says:

Went at the date they usually would and arrived pretty much straight away. I have had zero response to me emails regarding the missing points (don’t have the energy to sit on the phone over it)

    • Lee says:

      Update from Marriott:
Thank you for providing permission. I have followed up with my colleagues regarding both accounts. I can confirm the issue was stemming from the UK Card technical issue I referred to below. My colleagues have confirmed all missing points will be caught up in your account by this Monday October 15th.

      • AndyW says:

Thanks for the info, that doesn’t give them long, I am somewhat doubtful..

  • CM says:

OT: anyone know if we can still merge points across two SPG accounts?

    • Rob says:

SPG accounts no longer exist. Your old SPG account is now a Marriott account with a new 9 digit number.

Marriott allows 100k to be transferred per year.

      • Simon says:

General housekeeping. im assuming there is no need to keep both SPG and Marriott apps now… Im originally a Ritz Carlton gold member – is there any reason to keep SPG over Marriott to log in etc?

  • Kevin C says:

The SBE hotels in Miami Beach are often discounted in the HotelTonight app though the resort fee is on top. I’ll be in Miami Beach next month. Any tips? I have accommodation.

  • barnaby100 says:

i registered via the link but no amazon voucher, I have emailed them but no reply, how long does it take?

    • Rob says:

Check spam, most are in there. I will ask for names next week for a chase up though.

  • Dimitri says:

Does anybody know, for European flight upgrades with BA, does the reward flight saver still apply? I was quoted a £80 additional taxes for an upgrade from economy class to business class plus 17000 avios! I was expecting £50-£35 = £15

    • Shoestring says:

I just get a message (for tomorrow’s RFS flight) that redemption flights can’t be upgraded with Avios – & the with money upgrade is not being offered

    • Alex W says:

Might have to cancel and rebook. In any case I think you would have to pay the £35 change fee?

      • Dimitrios Konstantinidis says:

Sorry I was not clear. The ticket was paid cash and I want to upgrade within europe by using avios. But I was quoted a very high fee on top of the avios necessary for the upgrade.

  • JPK says:

    OT – Amex referral question

My wife has BAPP. Can she refer me for Amex Gold? The refer link only shows BAPP card and no other options. Anyone know how this can be done?

  • LDS says:

Has anyone else had issues receiving/viewing the Groupon voucher? I can only see the ‘View Details’ button in ‘My Groupones’

    • LDS says:

Ignore me, it takes about an two hours to appear below ‘View Details’… it did for me anyway…
